Lauman sloshes to Melrose Ice Race win By Steve Meikle MELROSE, WI, JAN. 4 Warm weather made for soft ice at the Central Wiscon sin Ice Racin g Association 's season warm-up race at Melro se, bu t the weather didn't stop Mike La ttma n from clea ning up the Open Pro class. La ttrnan slid into the lead ear ly in the first heat and pushed his Ho nda well ah ead of the competitio n a ll the way to the fin ish. The bikes had ma naged to slice the inside grove deep enough to h it water by halftime, a nd the track had to be lengthened J>:lst the thin ice. The changes to the track didn't seem to both er Lauman in the final. Lauman once again snatched the lead a nd stretched it out to the fini sh. Tony Kohn er .fin ished the day with a second followed by Jerry Thrune, Bob Kohner and Scou Winkler. Brad Wildes had an exceptional, but not perfect day with win s in the 250cc Novice class and in the debu t race of the new 200cc Novice class.
