SWmERLAND, DEC. 6-7 e week after his victory in the okyo Supercross, Jeff Stanton confirmed his return to form by sweeping the two -day Lucky Stri ke Supercross held in Geneva's Palexpo arena. Although Stanton- was th e overall winner of this event in 1988 with 23 finishes, he had never won a final in Switzerland. His two victories bring his Euro pea n supercross win record to five, his previous triumphs coming in H olland in 1989, last year, France and this year's race on the beach in Monte Carlo. Americans dominated the Pal expo racing as Jean -Mich el Bayle crashed on th e first nigh t and inj ured his right arm . On Friday nigh t, Bayle suffer ed his injuries whe n he crashed in the first semi . Stanton also hit tro uble in the race as Yves Demari a ran away to win by 18 seconds over Michael Craig. Stanton recovered to finish third. In the secon d semi Larry Ward edged J eremy McGrath for the win after they had sprinted clear of the rest of the field. The fin al was much closer as Ward and McGrath challe nged Stanton to th e end. Stanton held Ward off to win by half a second as McGrath tra iled the pair hom e in third place. Guy Cooper and Ron Tichenor rounded out the top five. Stanton and Ward met again in one of Saturday nigh t' s sem is, bu t this time Stanton scooted away to win by six seconds. Ward had to work to finish seco nd ahead of G reg Al bertijn. Cooper won the other semi with Demaria on his tail at the fin ish. Saturday's final proved to be another close race as Stanton led Cooper, Mike La Rocco and Alb ertijn across th e finish line in ra pid order at the end of the 12-minute race.
