The event dr ew ri ders from 39 states, Canada, Engla nd and Costa Rica to the six-day extravaganza that tested th e competi tors TT, stadium-style mo tocross , mot ocross and gra nd prix skills. T he four events dr ew a combined total of 2682 entries, which acco rding to WoridSports' J erry West was down slightly from previous years yet su rprising ly good consideri ng the to ug h economic times. " It just goes to show tha t people will dig down deep in their poc kets to contin ue racin g," said West. T he Sco tt USA G olden Gogg le Award was presente d to th e top Amateur class co m pe tito r. Upton, th e winner, said, "Th is is a coo l event. The o nly thing similar to it ou t West is the Whi te Bro s. Fo ur-Stro ke Nationa ls." U pton , aboard Yoko/ Ra cewa y Honda-backed CRs, scored poi nts in the 125 and 250cc B .divisions. Scott USA's Bevo Forti sai d, as he prese nte d Upton a new Scott mountain bicycle, D 4 "Our company has been here at the Ol ympics for 20 years an d we look forward to 20 more." Dun lop T ires' Fran k Stacy p resented th e Du nl op Silver Tire Award, wh ich goes to th e top Expert division rider, to Team Green Kawasak i rider Shea k. Stacy said, " We wa nt to encourage risi ng expert riders by awarding thi s trophy with a 15-tire contract for the 1992 seaso n." Wor ldSports presented a check for $500 to Sheak for his achievement . "Scottie, you are the best of the best, said West." . A tiebreaker was requ ired to determine the winner of the Youth di vision award, the Wor ldSpo rts Bronze Bike, and in vol ved Team G reen Kawasak i riders Mark Burkhart, Ricky Carmichael, Windham and Robb ie Reyna rd, .who each scored perfect records in their divisions. T he number of competitors in each of th e var iou s age divisions was used as the tiebreaker to de termi ne the winner and it was Windham 's divi sion that had the most rid ers. Windham , who rode flawlessly in most of th e numero us 85cc (12-13) events, sai d, " All of these guys rode great, They all deserve to win it." Ricky Skaggs was awarded the R icky J oseph Sportsmanship Trophy . West said, " Robby saw a ride r trap ped under
