Fo urth o rr th e line was Rodney Smith. It took Smi th only two lap s to mov e into the lead. On lap th ree. Sm ith m issed a shift setting up for a trick y step- up j ump and en doed. T his ga ve th e lead back to Meagh er , with Palad in o close beh ind in second. Bennett still held th ird. just pas t th e halfway po int, Pa lad in o made h is move o n Meagher and sto le th e lead . On the sam e lap Go mm mo ved arou nd Bennett for th ird . Pal adino o pe ned a sligh t lead o n Meagher for a few laps, but Meagher began to feel the heat from a closing Go m m and tu rned it ba ck up. As they came o ver th e stai rstep before th e Iinish , both Meagher and Gomm were bo u nci ng around with both feet o rr the pegs . The fini sh was the closest or the day with Paladi no holding o n for the win . Meagh er second, and Gomm third. The seco nd mot a saw Meagher grab the lead o rr the start bu t as the riders en tered the first turn, Meagh er hit a ru t and n ew off th e track. Paladino took o ver th e lead, followed by Bennett and Gomm. Meagh er remou nt ed and slowly rod e aro u nd in las t fo r lWO laps befor e finall y sha ki ng it or r a nd event ually chargi ng up to finish fifth . Pa ladino too k off with his lead a nd was never hea ded. The o nly close raci ng in the rno to was betwee n !ku nen a nd Gom m.
