eNEW BIKES TokyoMotorShow I Future Hondas ,........, (Above) Honda's Mantis is a con cep t vehicle with hydraulic twowheel drive and advanced computer that allows the rider to make suspe ns ion damping rate changes and alter the distribution of power to the wh eels. The Mantis is intended to perform both as an urban com m u ter and off-road " trekking" machine. (Above ) The CUV-ES Canopy (Clean Urban Vehicle) is a prototype scooter powered by a nickel/zinc battery with a range of approximately 48 miles. An aerodynamic screen cover , complete with wiper, protects the rider. The battery is recharged by plugging into a wall receptacle. (Right) The Xelvis is a Japanese production model with a VTR250-based V-twin engine modified to produce more midrange power. A new frame and seating position is designed for a more comfortable and spacious riding position. (Left) Dubbed P roject "Big One" , the CB IOOO Super Four is a prototype open- class machine featuring a 998cc, liquid-cooled motor in a standard frame configuration with conservative riding position. Production plans are unknown. 12
