Rex Staten was one of the few former factory
team riders at Perris who is still making
a living racing motocross.
Gary Denton, who was the top privateer with
a seventh-place finish in the 1982 125cc Nationals,
attended the World Veteran Championships just
for fun . He didn't even compete in the Pro class ,
but swept both motos of th e Vet Intermediate
division.
''I' m here to see some old buddies and have fun ;
it's a happening," said .!l.!l-year-old Demon, who
quit racing motorcycles in 1984 to take up ATV
racing, where he's won five National Championships. "I 'm not what 1 was on a motorcycle, so
I ride within my limits. 1 wam to win, and I'd
probably get lOth in the Pro class."
For 3O-year,.old Larry Wosick, a former factory Kawasaki and Honda rider, the
ev,em was a way to return to racing.
"I quit because I felt out of place in the regular Pro class," said Wosick . "But
now there's a class for everybody ."
Wosick's best finish in the 250cc Nationals was sixth place in 1979 and 'SO.
