Roeseler, Hunnicutt, Smith win Baja 1000 L any Roeseler (right), Ted H unnicutt and Many Smith (Kaw) comprised the overall and Class 22 (500cc) winning team at the SCORE Baja 1000 in Baja Cal ifornia, Mexico, November 8-9. The trio fini shed the 754. l-rnile race, whi ch started and finished in Ensenada, in 13 hours, 35 minutes an d 25 seconds, averaging 55.35 mph. The team of Danny Hamel, Jimmy Lewis and Dave Ondas (KT M) finished second, and third went to the team of Paul Krause, Garth Sweetland and Greg Zitterkopf (Kaw). Other class winners included Class 20 (I25cc): John Braasch/j eff Kawell/jeff Capt (Kaw); Class 21 (25Occ): Darr en Sanfo rd/Brian Schmuckle/Fred Willert (Suz); Class 30 (over 30 years of age): David Reese/ Cra ig AdamslWayne Martin (Ho n); Class 40 (over 40): Casey Folks/Bill Maxim/Keith Pearson (KTM), and Class 50 (over 50): Russ Termin/Hoyt Statham/Joh n Gregory (Kaw). The winnin g four-wheeler, a pickup dr iven by Larry Ragland, finised the race in 16 hours, 37 minutes an d 35 seconds, three hours and 10 seconds behind the winning bike team. His average speed was 45.36 mph, nearly IO mph slower than that posted by Roeseler, H unnicutt and Smith. , The win was Roeseler's fourth in a row in the Baja 1000 and the eighth of his career. In seven years of World Champi onsh ip compet ition, Eddie ha s won thir ty 500cc Gra nds Pr ix. Only the legendary Giacomo Agostini and Mike Hailwood have won more and Ha ilwood's record of thirty-seven victories is within reach. Cres pinel's image of Eddie Lawso n was created over a three- day period at the U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca in April of 1990. ,. Road racer Miguel DuHamel seems to be holding the key to any silly season moves in AMA road racing. Teams and riders are waiting to hear what the French Canadian will do in 1992 before others can make th eir mo ves. Commonwealth Honda wa n ts to keep DuHamel, but the Daytona 200 winner has received an o ffer to race for Sonauto Yamaha in th e 1992 500cc Wo rld Championsh ip Road Ra ce Series. If DuHamel goes to Europe to contest the G Ps, a spot will be open alongside Tom Kipp on a second Commonwea lth Honda. Where new Su perbike Ch am pion Thomas Steven s will go is still up in the air, but rumor has it that he could join Scott Russell at Muzzy Kawasaki. Freddie S p e n c e r hasn't signed a contract yet, but it is expected that he will ride a Fast By Ferracci Ducati in AMA racing nex t season, alt ho ugh his stock greatly increased with h is wi n in Miami on November II. Scott Russ e ll will definitely be back in AMA raci ng ,next seaso n, trying to win th e Superbike Nati onal Champ ionsh ip and also hold on to th e AMA/ CCS 750cc Supersport titl e for a third straight year. Russell is also sla ted to do as many World Su perbike races as the budget allows. The Camel-backed H ondas of Miguel DuHamel an d Rich Arnaiz had the famous Hon da Holes drilled in their fairings for the Miami Na tional. The ho les, which were first seen on H on da NSR250s durin g the 1990 GP season, are said to ma ke the bikes easier to flick side to side in transitions between comers. Randy Renfrow will take pan in the Dunlop tire test session at Daytona International Speedway beginning on No vember 7. Ren fro w, who badl y inj ur ed hi s rig h t hand du ring a preseason test cras h at Willow Springs International Raceway, will ride both the Commonwealth Honda Superbike and CBR600. Renfrow hasn't ridden a motorcycle on a race track since the Injury in January. Joining Commonwealth at the test will be the factory backed team s of Fast By Ferracci, Vance & Hines, Muzzy Kawasaki as well as 250 riders Chris D'Aluisio and newcomer Colin Edwards II. Road race r John Choat e will race J immy Filice's L.A. Motor Works Yama ha TZ250 in the ARRA road race a t Willow Spr in g s I ntern atio n al Speedway on No vember 10. Filice won the AMA 250cc Championship aboard the Bru ce Maas-tuned Yamaha .
