Without g uys li ke Phil Flack and Ji m Alle n (Du nlo p), Walt Schaefer (Michelin ), J ack Smi th 's Sport Cycle Products, E&H Racin g, Street & Competition, and L&M Racin g Supplies, racers would be hurtin ' for sure. A cou ple of reps often give up their tim e at no charge to help amateurs and guys with unusua l problems . T hese guys obviously reap benefi ts somewhere down the road by representing their respective companies, but they still give freely of their ti me and energy to help racers. Indeedl Do you mean to compare the Parker-Carr Series to Grand National competition? If yo u do , you were truly born yesterday . Parker mi gh t have been a "great" rider. Great American sport I have just read Donn Maeda 's Edi tor's Megaphon e in issue #42 (42, as in Steve Moreh ead ). Thank you. I ho pe the readers of Cycl e N ews wh o find thems elves in a situation similar to Maeda 's will follow in his footstep s. Hi s is not a unique story . Knights of o1d Thanks for the excellent vintage coverage in the October 30 issue. It was good to read that Jammin' Jimmy Weinert can still get arou nd a track in his old age. Barry H iggins is pre tty inspiring too . , Does anyone remember a German named Adolf Weil who was third in the wor ld when he was 38? Kenneth Dunn Spring Valley: CA Aprilia update In response to T he David Ray lett er (Oc tobe r 30 issu e) regard in g t he availa bili ty of Aprilia mot or cycles and parts for the 1992 seaso n, I mu st ag ree tha t not on ly is Ri ck T ripodi an honest and consc ientio us individua l, but I also look forward to doing business with him. However, I feel tha t Mr. Ra y has crea ted th e wrong impressi on in respe ct to engine parts. Until now there has never been an Aprilia importer (for road racing bikes ) and so there ha s understandably been a problem getting those parts that are' exclusive to Ap ril ia. Engine parts, on the o ther hand, ar e manufactured by Rotax and in the ab sence of an Aprilia distributor , th ey are availa ble from the U.S. Rotax importer, T ony Mu rphy. With some 500 eng ines in use in th is coun try usin g the same part s, I ca n assure any prospectiv e bu yer that Tony Murphy Rotax has now , as in the past, a comp rehe nsive stock of spa res for all Aprilia ro ad racers, incl udi ng Al Salaverria' s 1991 model. With help from Murphy, Salaverria has sorted o ut his mot or prob lem, wh ich was not ign iti on-rela ted as rumor ed. He finish ed th ird at th e WERA Road Atla nta meet and will be competing in the AMA Miam i meet. In closing, I can highly recommend Rick Tri podilRST and Tony Murphy Rot ax and expec t th at between them , they will provide Aprilia users the best after-sales service ava ilable in 250cc GP/F2 com pe titio n.
