Hall the master at IndyRoad Race By Larry Lawren ce INDlANAPOUS, IN., ocr. 6 Over the year s many race rs have taken a shot at beating Kurt Hall a t Indianapolis Raceway Park and very few have succ eeded . Hall • co n lin ued hi s winning ways at Indy, m e track where he started his road racing career. The Louisville, Kentucky. nalive, wh o now resides in Hilton Head Island, South Ca rol· ina, won two o[ th e Suzuki National Cup races and was the top money winner at Ind y, taking home $lOOO in SuzukI contingencies, In the A Superstock race, Hall j:r3bbed the ea rly lead followed by Valvohne Suzuki teammate Michael MarlIn. Defending WERA B Production Champion Tray Batey ran third ust ahead of Bruce Baldus. On the second ap , Ray Yoder moved past Baldus to take over fourth, and the top live riders circu la ted in a tight group wit h the exce ption of Hall, who was in the lead about five bike len g ths ahead o[ Martin. Hall co ntinued 10 gradually pull away [ro m the field, while Yoder fell back leaving Martin , Baldus and Batey to ligh t over second. With two la~s to 1;0, things heated up. Hall main tamed h IS three second lead as h e nego tiated la pped tra fli c, but when the second·place ba ttle hit th e trallic. Baldus clipped one of the slower riders and ran off the edge of the track, never slowi ng down. Martin wasn 't so lucky as his encounte r with a bac kmarker caused him to run off the track and lose lOuc h wit h the lead ers. The determined rid ing by Baldus nearl y pa id· off . On the final lap he caught Hall in the las t tum a nd appeared to be in a good pos ition to draft in to the lead, but Hall's bike had just enough power to hold o ff Bald us' machi ne a t the checkered flag . Bat ey took third ahead o[ Yoder. In th e B Superstock race it was Hall over Bal dus again, this time wi th a th ree second mar g in o[ victory. Bal dus had his hands full · I 44 I A SISTK : I.
