Gran Prix MX victory to Quear

Din and Road Works-backed Brad Quear rode
to double mota wins in th e co mbi ned 125 and
250cc Expert cl ass at Gran Prix Ra cewa y. One
Hundred filt een riders braved the ch illy 30
degree tem peratures at the Saturday evening
motocross under th e lights event,
Larry Bellman hol esh ot mota one, a hea d
01 Quear a nd Ph il Gauthier. Gauthier passed
Quear o n th e lir st lap and mo ved in o n
Bellman. The three riders diced lo r th e lead,
until lap live, wh en Gauth ier lound himself
o n th e ground. Quear, co nti n ui ng to pr essure
Bellman, made the pass lor th e lead o n lap
six 01 th e eigh t-lap race. Quear met th e
chec ker ed nag three seco nds a hea d 01Bellman .
Ch ad Coon mo tored into th ird , follow ed by
Jeff Sa nders and G authier.
Quear drove hi s Husky in to th e lead in mot a
two with G auth ier , Bellman , Coon a nd
Sanders in tow . Gauthier rem ained o n Quear's
rear wh eel as th e two riders bega n pulling
a way from th e co mpetitors behind. Quear
sco red. a wi re-to-wir e win. with Gauthier
mo tori ng past the checkered na g less than a
bike length behind. Coon held th ird, while
Bellman and Sa nders rounded ou t the top five.
Clip Adams won th e overa ll in th e Open
B class, scoring iden tical first place mot o.
finis hes. Ada ms too k th e lead off the line in
mo te one and wen t uncontested throughout
the five-lap race. Jason H all kept hi s KTM
in seco nd, but wa s unable to keep pa ce as
Adams greeted th e checkered n ag with a
com ma nd ing l6-second lead .

to ca tch , as he grabbed th e holesb o t ahea d
of Hall, Dan Morgan a nd David Johansen .
Hall moved in to cha lle nge Ada ms lor the
lead and proceeded to take o ver the top spot,
Adam s struck back less than a la p lat er , a nd
regained th e lead, Adams held a slim lead at
th e chec kers. Hall fi n ishe d second, a nd
Johansen m otored ahea d o f Mor gan for th ird
with Bryan Krebs in fihh.

Expen Rob Damron rode a lap around th e
co urse with the checkered nag as a tribute to
the late Steve Eklu nd. Eklund, wh o had been
in a coma for nearly a year and a half after
a raci ng accident. was a long time competilOr
at th e Ladi Cyde Bowl.
In th e Vintage A race , Dan Malfalli jumped
out to the earl y lead before Bob Meiring made
a n i~ mo ve to get by him in the nee tum.
J im Mah oney moved up to challen~ l\oliering
In the fi nal la ps, but co uld no t find a wa y
around. Meiri ng held on for the win over
Ma honey, with Roc ky Ma lyn n third.
In the Open A class, Robert Damo n r stol e
the hol esh o t and led from stan 10 finish.
Danny McDonald recovered lrom a bad start
and wo rked his way up to thi rd. behind T o ry
Bostrom . Andy Tresser ended up th ird, behin d
Mike G resh em .

Pro -Am m a i n , followed by' McD on nel l.

th e win. Jim J ul son and Bud Ridd le fough t
o ver second, wit h Julson taking the spot.

Garey Carlson scored the win in the 125cc

Steve Coneville during the Cal ifornia Racin g
Club's night mot ocross at Lo s An geles County
Raceway.

first mot a and was running in fro n t o f th e
250cc machines, while Carlson and th e rest
o f th e l 25cc Nov ice class ra n a few seconds
behind the 250s in th e co m bi ne d Slart.
Co rte ville used th e 250s 10 his advan tage and
pulled a way duri ng the early laps wh ile
Carlso n worked hi s way th rough to second
by th e third la p.
Carlson managed 10 ch ip away a t Cortevill e' s lead and by th e second to last lap wa s
