was on the gas, setting the quickest time and moving into fourth overall. Hatch's score was 13 seconds slower than Roeseler's but was still good enough to move the Suzuki rider u p to second overall. KTM-mounted Kelby Pepper and Smith had identical times, with Pepper climbing into third. Smith still had the overall lead, though only by 14 seconds over Hatch. Heading into the next check was the final gas , which marked the finish for the C classes, and Senior and Women riders. The AlB loop was next with the last terrain test starting almost immediately. After 9.5 miles of fast two-track over hills and a tight trail up a canyon, Roeseler aga in set the fastest tim e, gaining another 29 seconds on Smith, who was the next quickest. Roeseler mo ved into second overall and was only three seconds behi nd Smith. T h ird overall Peppe r was th e third fastest, while H a tch was off . the pace and d ropped to fourt h overall with just the test rema ini ng. The fin al special test consisted of a motocross style layout on a gras sy field. T wo times around a 2.7-mi le track woul d determi ne the fin al sta ndings. Smith used his MX expertise to blow everyone away and set the quickest time. Roeseler and KTM's J im my Lewis tied for the second fastest time, but each still lost 24 points to Smith. The final tall y had Smith claiming th e overall win with 3 104 points, Roeseler second with 3131, Pepper third with 3210, Lewis fourth with 3217 and Hatch fifth w ith 323 1. Rounding o ut the top 10 were recently crowned Nat ional Hare & Hound Champion Dann y Hamel, 1991 National Reliability Enduro Champion Dave Bertram, Kawasaki 's Kurt Hough, Suzuki-mounted Dan Neilson an d Kawasaki rider Tommy Ady. In the Vet A class , Matt Cullins to p ped nine-time National Enduro Ch am p ion Dick Burleso n [or the class wi n, while Rich Adan won the Senior A class over Rick Beckstro m. Fred Sumrall scored the Super Sen io r A class victory. Robert H orton topped the B division, whi le Pam Mont agu e aced the Women's class. T he overall Crider was Ma tthew Wallace. After all the score cards were collected, a Dash for Cash race pitted th e top riders in a 10-lap race on the grass track with $500 up for grabs. A first turn pileup had many of the ri ders picking up their bikes, including Smith and Roeseler, bu t Hough managed to get through and was long gone ou t in front. Roesel er was midpack and had worked his way up to third before sliding out in a turn. Smith was the rider to watch, as he moved his way up through th e pack to challenge leader Hough by the seventh lap. Smith dogged Hough through the eighth lap and passed him o n the inside of a tight right-hand turn. Three turns later, however, Smith's Suzuki came to an untimely stop, when he had reportedly run out of gas. Hough inherited the lead and eventual win, whi le Hatch finished second.
