The winner's average speed was 75.416 mph. The oil leak the bike developed during the race must have made the Valvoline Suzuki crew nervous. The team has not DNF a race since April , 1989. In the hot Mediumweight Production class race, it was Dunn Ra cing whi ch came on to win the race in the last hour, The Honda House/Digit Color Graphics/Power H ouse Aud iobacked Hon da Dunn Racing CBR600 was gett ing Iowan fuel towards th e end of th e race . The othe r teams figured Dunn would mak e a late pit stop, but it was not 10 be. A Dunn Racing crew member asked a WERA official how much tim e was left in the race; and he was mi stakenly told eight minutes. The decision was made to keep the bike circulating. " It was a calcu lated risk ," said Tom Dunn. "We knew we would be running on fumes at the finish." It turned ou t that there was actually 15 minutes left in the race. Had the Dunn Racing crew known , they would have never let the bike continue to circulate. On the final lap the Dunn Racing H onda began to run ou t of gas. Fortunately for the team , the checkered flag came out just in tim e. It was the first win for the team which was formed in mid-season. Hall 'N Still Racing conti n ued its near perfect season by ta ki n g yet a no th er H eav yweight Production victory, Bruce Baldus, Mike Reed and Tray Batey ran as h igh as third overall and even tually finis hed fourth overall. The fndy win was the eighth in nine tries for the Cincinnati-based team which is back ed by Dunlop, SBS, ' Bieffe, R.E.S., Zero Gravity and Widman Suzuki.
