All rigblS .-...d. I would like to compliment Cycl e News on its coverage of th is year 's ISDE i n Czechoslovakia. I really appreciate th e fact that yo u cared enough to have Kit Palmer there to provide o n -the -spot cove ra ge of th is his toric moment. A lot of hard work goes into this event, from the time the riders start the qualifiers in th e spring until the finish flag drops after th e final rnoto. With this year's " J r. World Trophy Team Win " th e U.S. showed the world that we can co m pe te with th e best and win ! Iris Rhodes Kent, WA . . . and more How good it feels to finally say we're number one. My congratulations to ISDE Junior World Trophy Team members Steve Hatch, Jimmy Lewis, David Rhodes and Chris Smith. You did it and we're so very proud of yo u r accomplishments. Having ex per ie nced what was undoubtedly my most overwhelming sense of pride a n d patriotism at th e open in g ceremonies in Mende, France, in 1988, I can o nly speculate at how truly awes ome it must have been to wat ch th e Juniorteam ta ke center stage a nd accep t th eir trop hy as ou r flag was lowered and o ur natio n al a nthe m pl ayed. Du e respect , well deserved. . I would also like to ex ten d m y admiration to a ll th o se eq ua lly fin e individua ls who ha ve rep resented the Un ited States so p roudly year after year. In an area o f m otorcycle racin g wi th little mo netary compensation and m ini mal su pport and fu ndin g, those individuals who strive for excellence co ntin ue to p ut forth great effort a t great personal expe nse. T o th ose wh o have come so close a nd end ured long , I sa lu te you as well. All o u r effo rts have fi na lly been rewarded as we ap pla ud the 1991 U.S. Junior World T rophy T eam. T hanks, guys! th e admission charge for the day was $20. We talked a bo u t the price and decided that this was too much money to watch local racers at this small track. We had both attended Daytona this year and th e entry was only $25. For further co m pa riso n, I recently went to a ZZ Top concert and th e cost of admission was $19. I have been ra cing motorcycles on dirt since I was 12 and am planning on road racing within a year or two. At no time in any of my racing has an organization charged me more than $10 to watch a local race. I also realize what it costs to organize and run a race as I have been a member of the Cal Poly Penguins M.e. and the Huntington Beach M.e. , both of which promoted ra ces. I also attended the AMA/CCS races at th e same track a month before, yet their cost of admission was only $10 for the Sunday races . I now know for certain which group is into racing (not making money) and it's not WERA. If they want to make money for a purse, th e idea is to attract many people a n d co llect a small gate fee; the high d oll ar i te m s sho u l d be the concessions a n d T-sh irts. Wh en and if WERA gets down to th e real world on th eir ticket costs, m y friends and I will attend th eir ro ad ra ces. Ed Larosche Huntsville, AL Helmet isn' t to blame Karen and Alan Drafs Bellingham, WA We would like to ta ke this op portu nity to thank everyo ne who sent cards, ca lled or do nated money for o ur so n Bran d o n Ro se. Brand on was inj ured on Augus t 17, while racin g at 1-91 Speedwa y in Lake Odessa, Mic h igan . T h ere ar e ma n y ru mors abo u t Brando n's helmet, a K-21 Kiwi. This hel met saved h is life. Under great im pact and a t certain angles a ny helmet can come off . T he inj ury which kept Brandon in th e h osp ital occu rred with hi s initial fall , wh en th e helmet was still o n. Brandon is h om e now a nd is back a t school. All your prayers hav e helped in his recovery. God bless you alII The Drafs are the parents of ISDE com petitor Scott Drajs . . . Editor. Christine and Steven Rose Uassay, MI How much is too much? On Sunday , September 29, my neighbor and I rode to T alladega, Alabama, to wat ch th e WERA road rac es. The rid e was grea t and the weather was wonderfu l. When we arrived at the track at I I. a.m., th e gentlema n a t th e gate informed us th at Letters to the editor should be sent to: Voices, Cycle Neuis , P.O. Box 498, Long Beach, CA 90801-0498.
