Linkogle lands Perris Motocross victory By Tony Alessi PERRIS, CA, SEPT. 14 Larry Linkogle scored a well- earned victory over a field of top no tch 125cc Intermediate cla ss riders during the GFl " W in A Truck" Night Seri es at Perris Raceway. . Linkogle's night sta rted dismally, as he was pushed out a t the sta rt of th e fir st m oto and was forced to ride from last. Ryan j ohnson led foll owed closely by j oe T u ttobene and Grant Gaspar. joh nso n was on th e ga s and hung tough for the firs t seven o f a I2·lap mot o. johnson and Tuttobene bashed it o ut up front, while Linkogle wa s mythodically working hi s way through the field, passing Randy Skinner then Gaspar for th ird during the lat e stages of the moto. During th e fin al laps, Linkogle successfu lly pa ssed j ohnson then reeled. in lead er Tuuobene. The two rid ers bat tled for the win with T uttobene fending o ff Linkogl e for th e victory. . johnson was first in to th e fas t sweeping left hand lurn in m oto tw o with Li n kog le breathing down hi s back. j ohnson kept it pinned around the en tire track bu t cou ldn' t sha ke L in kogle, wh o was usin g a varie ty o f different lines in an attem p t to pass. Robert Gonzalez sco red his firs t wi n of th e series after two close races with Bla in e T owe in th e 250cc Beginner d ivision two class . But two tur ns from th e fin ish T ow e threw hi s Yamaha away after getting ta ng led in a set o f tires. . Go nzalez breezed acr oss the finish line first , looking back to see Brei Milan secon d. T ow e fell once mo re 10 feet befor e th e finish but still managed to cross th e line th ird. Go nzalez aga in led the way in the seco nd mota , but Towe again tracked h im down and pas sed halfway th rough the moto for th e lead. Towe went o n to WIn while Gonza lez rod e smart in seco nd , kn ow in g he had th e o vera ll win i( he ma intained h is positi on, wh ich he did forthe overa ll victory. As the mot o entered th e m idway stage, Kendrick and Buck meier ap proached a 180degr ee, right-hand tu rn nea r th e center o f th e track. Landr ick bobbled sli ghtl y, a m istak e which proved more tha n eno ugh to a llow Buckmeier to take over th e lead. Buckmeier q uickly p ut di stan ce between hi mse lf an d th e rest o f the pack. With on ly two laps rema in ing. Li nse passed DeCosta to take o ver tem pora ry posessio n of third. DeCosta was ted little ti me In repa ssing Li nse who con tin ued to press the Kawasak i rider rel entlessly. Before th e la p had end ed, Linse had passed DeCosta for a seco nd a nd fin al time. L in se th en spent th e entire fin al lap try ing to mak e his way by Kendrick, bu t was unable to take over second before Buck meier crossed the li ne for the win . Buckmeier , mean while, was quick to impro ve ~n h is fif th pl ace start, pa ssing first Craig Johannson for fourth and then Sean Monroe to tak e o ver third by the end of the firs t lap. Kendrick , who had settled into second beh ind Linse, seemed su rp rised whe n Buckm eier pulled alo ngsi de as th ey ap proached the u phill sta irste p j ump. DeCosta, who had spe nt most of th e moto ba ttl in g with Monroe, th en set his sigh ts o n Kendrick. Kendrick had ha d enough, th ough , and as DeCosta attempted a last-ditch pa ss a ttemp t at th e ch ecker ed flag, Kendrick sh u t him o ff to hold o n to fourth. II For the second week in a row Du stin Schroeder scored the Handicap mai n win while j ess Ochoa emerged with a victory in the Scratch main at Auburn Speedway . Bart Bast also had a profitable night as he claimed h is second northern Califor nia n u mber one plate. All eyes were o n J im Sise more and Bast in th e Scra tch main, as both riders had been close in points all ni gh t. T he start was red-fl agged when Och oa and Sisemore went down. On the restart Och oa was more aler t and ga ted perfectly, holding the po le and taki ng the lead th roughout the first lap. Bast and Sise mo re were locked in to the ir o wn battl e giving Ochoa so me brea th in g room. After Bast broke free of Sisemore, he sho t after the leader Oc hoa. Oc hoa, th ough, was firml y in cha rge and held BaSI at bay for th e last two la ps fo r his second Scra tch main win . Sch roeder made another H an di cap ma in loo k easy, as he too k the lead when the tapes wen t up . Sch roe der never loo ked bac k, as he won the ma in for the seco nd straight week. COLUMBIA, M SEP. 14-15 O, Chad Pederson found th e fast way arou nd the track to take top hon o rs in the 125 and 250cc Expert classes a t the an n ual H ot Dog Shootout held at Finger La kes Sta te Park. Pederson follow ed junior jackson a nd Doug Sto ne o ut of the ga te in th e first 250cc mot o, and ta ng led with Stone for two la ps wh ile jackson bu ilt a comfo rta ble lead. Once around Stone, Pederson set ou t to close th e gap be tween h imself and jackson. By lap • seven , Pederson a nd J ackso n were neck-andneck, wit h th e lead changing fou r times in the next two lap s. Pederson was ted no tim e p uttin g the pressure o n j ackson, a nd took the lead br iefly III lap two, only to be passed back later in the same lap. After two laps of close raci ng , Pederson pulled off a crowd pl easing mid a ir pass to stea l the lead . He ibel, wh o had been watching the action (ro m th ird pl ace, grabbed th e opportuni ty to pass jackso n as well . The second mo to en ded with Pederso n a nd H eibel well o ut in fro n t o f j ackso n an d the rest o f th e pack. The th ird l 25cc Expert mo to had j ackso n o u t of th e gate firs t, Pederso n fifth and H eibel , who had been pl agu ed by bad sta rts all weekend, a miserable seven th. Pederson had passed a ll contenders betw een himself an d j ackson in j us t a co u p le o f laps, a nd th e two loo ked lik e th ey were setti ng th e stage for a repeat o f their 250cc class performances. By th e fifth lap, Ped erson and j ackson were sideby-side , and stayed that way for two laps. In lap six, Ped erson mad e the pa ss th at stuck, and a half lap later , H eibel , wh o had worked hi s way th ough the pack behi nd Pederson, also passed jackson. With three laps to go , Ped erson's lead" was safe from J ackson, b ut not from H eibel. In the sho rt lime th a t followed , Ped erson saw his lead shrink from six seconds to almost nothing as Heibel edl:ed in alo ng side. O'Boyle boils at Delta Motocross By Mark Montgomery DEl.TA, OR, SEPT. 8 · Darren O 'Bo yle powered his Yamaha to two moto wins under th e lights in th e combined 250cc A and B classes at Glass City MX Park. In mot o one, O 'Boyle blasted o ut of th e ga te and snared th e hol eshot wi th Ryan Weatherby· a nd Rodney Stout in hot pursuit . Stout blew through a berm at th e end of a whoop sen es and turned over thi rd to Chuck Lo y. Even tho ugh Weatherb y and Lo y kept th e pr essu re on, O 'Boy ie never seemed to be in se~ous trouble an d too k th e che ckered flag WIth a three·second maTlPn.
