" I won this race by three minutes last year but they gav e me a five minute penalty for going too fast in the pits. T hat put me back to second overall and second in class," Zitterkopf exp lained. " I did . go too fast in one section today. It was only about 50 feet long and I just had brain fade. I gassed it for about 10 feet but, wh en I realized wh at I'd done, I hit th e brakes an d sto p ped a nd waited. It was just a mis ta ke." " The race was a bla st, It's not often yo u ride through .a town like th is, practi cally through peoples' back yards. It's really ' a fun deal. " Sweetland said, " I was trying to ride consistent a nd stro ng and no t mak e any mistak es. I had a go od rid e. I just needed to go a bit faster. Seco nd in class went to Yamaha pilot Darin Cartwright in 16th overall, and Brian Schmuckle rounded out th e top three in 21st overall. Maxim ra ced home 22nd overa ll to take th e Over 38 Pro title by more than 20 pl aces. Roger Hurd disappeared during the last lap of th e course leaving Charlie Kline a t th e head of th e 125 Pros in 23rd overall. George McQuiston topped th e Expert racers in 15th overall , just 17 mi nutes behind the Pro cla ss wi n ners. "The d ust was a real factor starting back behind the Pro s," McQuistion said. " You had to wait until you got to the grassy pa rts or th e wide open trails to pass and that held me up. " Ric ha rd Wilk topped th e Open Expert cla ss just two pl aces behind McQuiston, Tom Barbero won th e Over 38 Expert division in 36th overall and Tim Lee he came out on top of the Over-30 Experts two places back in 38th. . Overall honors in th e five-lap Amateur race were claimed by 16-year-old Ty R ob erts from Snohomish , Washington.
