California Trail Rides Presents The 2nd Annual Shea k sho t into the load in mo to two with Stratton close behind a nd determ ined to get by. Stra tton was abl e to pass when Shea k made a sligh t mistak e and for the remai ning laps the pa ir rode wheel-to-wheel. Their fast pace caused them to start lapping riders and on the last lap Sheak skillfully used a lapper to get pa st Stratto n. Stratton retalia ted and appeared set to repass four turns from the fin ish lin e, b ut once again Sheak took advan tage of lapped traffic to block the pass and take the win. J ohn Young came out on top of a two-mote dogf ight with Doug Flem ing in the Open Expert class. In each race the two riders exchanged the lead many times pe r la p. Fleming wen t down in moto one which ended the bar -bangi ng for that race. I Andy T rott edged Kevin Miller in a close race in the lron man B class at the ina ugural race for J erry 's Kids Hare Scra mb les, I?ut on by the Din Bikers Cl ub of San Antonio and the Muscular Dystrophy Association at Czars Ranch. The even t raised over $5100 for MDA, a total they hope 10 top next year. The 100degree heat and dusty condi tions a t Czars Ranch didn't keep the 94 riders from entering either the two-man , tag-team class or the onerider ironman. Trott won th e gruelin g three and a half hour race by edging out Miller on the last lap in the race to the checkered flag. Mill er was ahead of T ro ll for the first three lap. un til he pitted, giving Trott the lead Miller stayed clsoe a nd made up a two-minute difference in the final lap only to lose by five seconds at the checkered nag. Miller's two pit stops to Trott's one cost him the victory. In the Tag T earn B even t. the teams of Brian Mason/Jeremy Stockton and Rip Woodardl Tom Walker ran tight throughout the race. Mason/Stockton at one po in t had a fourmi nute load but lost it on the seven th lap to WoodardIWalker and cou ld not rega in th e time lost in the Iollowing 'two laps, thus giving the win to WoodardIWalker.
