On the 19th lap, Carr was again surprised when Atherton slid past, but Carr displaced his teammate on the following straight. Durelle suddenly came to life on the next lap, and blasted past Hale and Atherton to assume third, while Jones and Poovey looked for a way to do the same. "I was stuck in fifth for so long, but near the end I started to get more familiar with the track," said Durelle. "All of a sudden I found my self smoking past those guys, and I thought, 'Hey, alright! ' " Durelle proceeded to reel in Carr, bu t was unable to find his way past before the checkered flag appeared. Parker scored the win, wi th nearly a full straightaway to sp are, while Carr and DureIle sped across the fin ish line painfully dose. Ath erton and Hale rounded out the top five, with Jones and Poovey only inches behind. "I kept thinking th at Carr was coming, but he never did ," said Parker. "Then, I realized that I had gotten a good lead on th em, and I was one happy camper." . " When Scott y got away like that, we seemed to slow each other down," said Carr, who was in sur prisingly good spirits. " It didn't affect the race at all , but a fuel line broke and gas started to pour on my leg. Wh en we pulled off, man, did it burnl " . Poovey seemed pleased with his debut performance on the Shobert Racing Honda , co n side r i n g the circu ms tances. " I think we still have 10 dial it in," said th e personable Texan. "Heck, we didn 't even stan the bike until Thursday, and it's been sitting for over three years ! I'm looking forw ard to the next two races, though." Nearly five seconds behind the lead pa ck, Morehead, Pegram and Farris ' spent the ent ire race swa pp ing pos itions, and rounded out the top 10, in that order. " It takes horsepower to run up there, . and right now, we don 't got it," said Morehead . " We just gotta go back t the dyno . Oh weIl, those good 01' boy I was racing with were a lot of fun ."
