get through it better than I was, " said
Carr.
On the 19th lap, Carr was again
surprised when Atherton slid past, but
Carr displaced his teammate on the
following straight. Durelle suddenly
came to life on the next lap, and blasted
past Hale and Atherton to assume
third, while Jones and Poovey looked
for a way to do the same.
"I was stuck in fifth for so long, but
near the end I started to get more
familiar with the track," said Durelle.
"All of a sudden I found my self
smoking past those guys, and I
thought, 'Hey, alright! ' "
Durelle proceeded to reel in Carr, bu t
was unable to find his way past before
the checkered flag appeared. Parker
scored the win, wi th nearly a full
straightaway to sp are, while Carr and
DureIle sped across the fin ish line
painfully dose. Ath erton and Hale
rounded out the top five, with Jones
and Poovey only inches behind.
"I kept thinking th at Carr was
coming, but he never did ," said Parker.
"Then, I realized that I had gotten a
good lead on th em, and I was one
happy camper."
.
" When Scott y got away like that, we
seemed to slow each other down," said
Carr, who was in sur prisingly good
spirits. " It didn't affect the race at all ,
but a fuel line broke and gas started
to pour on my leg. Wh en we pulled
off, man, did it burnl "

" I think we still have 10 dial it in,"
said th e personable Texan. "Heck, we
didn 't even stan the bike until Thursday, and it's been sitting for over three
years ! I'm looking forw ard to the next
two races, though."
Nearly five seconds behind the lead
pa ck, Morehead, Pegram and Farris '
spent the ent ire race swa pp ing pos itions, and rounded out the top 10, in
that order.
" It takes horsepower to run up there,
. and right now, we don 't got it," said
Morehead . " We just gotta go back t
