titl e chase 10 put o n a fan tast ic sho w at th e
third ro u nd o f the 1991 Acti on Sports Summer
Supercross Series, held at th e Meigs Co unty
Fall. Jon es was th e big winner , ta ki ng three
o f four mot a wins in th e Pro classes. Bowen
picked up a win, two seconds , a nd a th ird .
Hi s teammat e DeHoop added a second and
a third.
Barr Racing/Off the Wall -sponsored Mike
Jon es go t th e jump in the first 125cc mot a ,
but Bowen a nd DeHoop sli pped u nder h im
in the first turn.
"I had a ~ood start but wh en I went in to
the turn, Keith hit me, pu shing me over the
berm and Todd got by me too, " said jones ..
Mike Morgan held fourth, ahead o f Will is
Grooms and Chuck Reed . j on es had a grea t
line in th e long whoop sectio n a nd moved
past DeHoop for second . Reed was able to
pa ss G rooms, a nd he and Morgan raced for
fourth. With o nly Bowen a hea d o f hi m , j on es
star ted to cut away at his lead a nd two laps
a fter he passed DeH oo p , jones took the lead
in the whoops. Bowe n saw Jones' line in the
whoo ps and tried to use it 10 repass Jones
two la ps fro m th e finish. Jon es held him off,
but Bowen '\\0 5 abl e to ma ke a wide open move

a t the end o f th e hor se track section to take
the lead . Bowen held o n to win, wi th Jon es
second, DeHoop in th ird a nd Reed in fourth.
QeH oop was the fir st rider ou t o f th e gate
in mot a two, but killed his engi ne o n th e hor se
tra ck, letting j on es by. DeH uo p held seco nd,
and tho ugh he was able to close o n Jones at
th e end, he co uldn 't regain the lead. Bowen
go t a terr ibl e start and by th e time he had
bauled his wa y to third, th e lead ers were go ne.
" I had a hard time passing Mor~n , and
that killed my ch ances a t a no ther win," said
a disappointed Bowen.
Jones and Bowen put o n a titan ic ba ttle
in the Iirst 250cc Pro mo te . From th e moment
the gate dropped, the duo traded th e lead three
or four times every lap. Bowen led by a bike
