Vohland, Gaddis, Graves score at Sweetwater By Don Schn eider ROCKSPRINGS, WY,AUG.17·18 awasaki's Tyson Vohland, Suzuki's Jimmy Gaddis and privateer Tony Graves were the big money winners at the $20,000 Sweetwater Co. Invitational MX. Pro class winners Gaddis and Vohland took home the lar gest chunk of cash at $4500 each, . while Graves collected $2075 for K finishing second in both the 125 and 250cc Pro divisions. The Coors Light /Coca-Colal H a rdee 's-vsp o n so red even t at the Sweetwater County Fairgrounds attracted 60 professionals and many amateur riders. Vohland jumped out to the early lead in the first l25cc Pro moto on Saturday , ahead o f G raves , Chris Young , Sha wn Mor ga , Gaddis a nd Brian Cal l. ' Gaddis was the first to make a move, passin g bo th Young and Morga and settling int o thi rd . The Suzuki rider then set ou t after Graves, who was cha llenging ' leader Vohl and. The two riders raced side-by-side . down th e next straight with Gaddis edging by Graves. Graves, however, didn 't give up and chased Gaddis down to the finish, but couldn't find enough daylight to pass. Graves blasted hi s Honda CRl25 in to the earl y lead in moto two, but :both Vohland an d Gaddis had motored around him by the third lap. Graves kep t the pressure on Gaddis as the three leaders pull ed away from the rest of the pa ck. • Voh lan d, Gaddis and Graves battled dow n to th e wire, with Vohland holdi ng on for the win with Gaddis finishing second and Graves th ird . You ng finished fourth with Glass tak ing fifth at th e line, ahea d of J ackson. Leidberg and Gaddis took the lead ahea d of Glass, Jeremy Middough and Graves at the start of Sunday's first 250cc Pro moto. Graves, however, put a mo ve on Middough, knocking him over a berm, and that also gave Sommo enough room to make a pass. Shortly thereafter, Gaddis roosted by Leidberg for the lead and held on to it for good. While Gaddis led the way, riders wer e battling back and forth for pos itions throughout the moto. Glass even tually crossed the finish line in second, with Sommo a close third. Voh land, who had crashed early in the moto, worked back up through the pack to nail down third, while Graves, wh o had lost time in a mudbog, fin ished fifth . Early front-runners Pederson and Pestana were knocked ou t of contention by mech anical problems. Peder - son dropped back to sixth after hi s cha in derailed, and Pestana ended up 23rd with his bik e's transmission stuc k in th ird gear . Graves jam med into the lead a t the start of the second moto and he ld on to it until the halfw ay poi n t when Vohland and Gaddis closed in . Voh land soo n took over th e lead and Gaddis dropped Graves to third. "The suspe nsion was fading hard, and I was having trouble keeping the bike straightened out ' through the gnarly sections," Graves said. " I knew it was just a matter of time before someone was going to cat ch me. Vohland and Gaddis duked it out for the remainder of the race, with Voh land hanging on for a narrow victory .
