eNEW BIKES e 1992 off·rood Kawasakis awasaki showed off its 1992 MXI off-road lineup at the August 6II NMA Grand National Champ ionsh ips in Ponca City. Oklahoma. and highlighting the new Kawasakis ar e th e completely revamped KXI25 and 250. Both models feature severa l com mo n changes over th e '9 1 ma chi nes: longstroke motors which breathe through a new airbox with larger air filter have been in corporated in an effort to boost midrange a nd top- en d power without sacr ificing low -end torq ue. Both bik es feature a refined perimeter fram e with incr eas ed steering head g usse tin g, stronger downtubes and welded rear to p sh ock mounts. Suspe nsio n damping setti ngs at both ends ha ve been recal ibra ted. An all- new front brake features a firs t in motocross - a full-floa ti ng dis c, that also has an improved hol e pattern. New metal pads clamp th e disc. Kaw asaki has made the KX line slim mer with new side pan els wh ich hav e a narrower junction with the rear K 20 fender. T he radiator shro uds now com p letely cover the fuel tank, which is sun ken into the peri meter frame, and the seat extends to the gas cap. All bodywork, plus the rear sub-frame and suspens io n link age ar e interchangeable between the 125 and 250. Other changes to the KXl25 include revised exhaust power-valve settings. a new exhaust pi pe , lar ger carburetor. larger radiato rs taken from th e KX250, a nd new clutch pl ate material. The KX250's com pletely new motor gets a three-w ay exh a ust power valve. a single-ring piston, larger clutch plates with lighter clutch spring s. strengthened transmission gear dogs and a reshaped expans io n ch am ber. There are virtuall y no changes-to rlTe rest of the KX lineup, co nsisting of the KX60, 80 and 500, excep t for new g ra p h ic schemes. Th e Big -Wheel KX80, however. gets an inv erted front fork, while th e regular- sized KX80 retains a conventional front fork . Kawasak i's KDX200 and 250 0[[' roa d models also see littl e cha nge. as o n ly revi sed jetting . added fram e gu ssets and new graph ics grace the '92 offeri ngs. Eac h model in the en tire off-road lineup has a sligh tly higher price tag over the '9 1 list price. with suggested retail prices as follows: KX60, $1699; KXBO. $2099: Big Wheel KX80. $2249; KXl25 , $3449; KX250 and 500, $4199; KDX200, $2999; and the KDX250 is pri ced at $3999.
