Faria was Bob by Schwartz in last p lace but
looking for a line to move up.
Faria began his assau lt on lap three as he
moved around the o u tside o f Brant. Entering
tum one of th e fourth lap, Faria went betw een
Ackroyd and Beinert as th e two tried 10 stay
ahea d o f the Natio nal Cham p io n and still
avoid the riders directly in front o f th em . A
lap later , Faria looked to have hi s sig hts set
on mov ing ar ou nd Manch ester whe n unexpectedly Webb go t off th e inside !;:Toove and
slid o UI towards the wall, leaving a gap
between him and a surprised Finch. Faria
didn 't hesitate and cu t around Man ch ester and
between Finch a nd Webb to ass u me a lead
that he would stretch o u t all the way 10 th e
checkered flag. Finch kept hi s pose an d
fini shed second wi th third go ing 10 Manch ester and fourth to Schwartz , who followed Far ia
through th e pack up until hi s final m ove.
Schwartz was the fir st to react as the starti ng
tapes went u p for th e Scratch main and crea ted
a lead that he never reli nq uishe d. Schwartz's
drive and momen tu m carr ied h im very wide
out in to the deeper din, and Far ia was also
loo king to use the outsid e in his a ttem p t to
overtake th e leader. This maneuver backfired
wh en Schwartz went wid e and Faria had to
back o ff 10 avo id hitting the wall or Schwartz.
As the two riders were acting out their da nce
at the front of the pa ck , Brant was reco ver in g
fro m a very, poor start, drivi ng hard down on
the inside line a nd com ing within a half a
bike length o f tak in g the lead aw ay from
Schwartz. But Schwartz used the dirt o n th e
outs ide to increase his lead . Bra nt kept up
a very quick pace with Far ia righ t behind him,
an d m th e end Brant had to settle fo r second.
Faria finished in third place while Charlie
Venegas ro u nded ou t th e field . .
