After being passed. Parker stuck to
Carr's rear fender for a few laps. but
th e " Prince o f Peo ri a " eventua lly
broke Cree. With every la p . Carr
continued to add to his lead . and o n
the last la p shoo k his fist in the ai r
as he sailed over the j um p th e final
time. Parker came ho me second ahea d
of Ath ert on , Graham and Kin g, wh ile
H a le, J ones, Morehea d , H ill and
Pegram rounded o ut the top 10.
"I've always said that if someone was
go nna beat me here, they were going
to have to work for it." said Carr. " Lei
me tell you , Scouy almost worked ha rd
eno ugh! I love this track, and I co uld
race here all year long. "
"What can I say?" said Par ker, who
seemed co nt ent with his runner-up
finish. " I just can 't beat him (Carr )
here. he goes too damn fast. Just wait
'till we get back to the mi les, though."
" I got a rea l bad start," said Atherton. " I just had to calm myself down
and take it o ne rider at a ti me. I like
th is stu££; I was havin g a blast!"
" I was bein g kin da cautious," said
Graham. " My game plan is to just be
consisten t on these races (TT and hal f
mile) and save myself for the miles at
the end of the season. That's where I'm
gonna rea lly pour it OIi."
" I can 't complain, but I could' ve
do ne better." said King.

Kin g smi led and said. " Yeah, that was
great. I haven't been th at nervous since
\ was 10 years oldl"
" I sho uld've done better than sixth,"
said Hale. " I got a bad start and had
to work my way up. My header pipe
broke ,near the end and slowed me
do wn a litt le, bu t I' m still happy as
can be."
" I go t th e front row start th at I
wanted ." said a disappo inted J ones,
who finished seventh. " But I got the
last p ick a nd had to start in the
marbles. I swear, I spun forever. I th ink
I would've been better o££ with a good
pick o n row two."
-" I was goi ng good until r started
wa tching the ot her guys hit the jump,"
said eigh th p lace fini sher, Morehead.
" Gra ham was h itting it at an angle
a nd setting up for th e right-hander, so
I tried it. I couldn 't do it righ t. but
by that time I had for gotten how I was
hi tti ng it before!"
" I'm real sore," said Pegram . who
still seemed dazed af ter h is heat race
crash. " I go t a terrible start and rode
bad for the first co up le of laps, and
that was it."
" Man, I was up th ere for a while,
wasn 't I?" said a lighthearted Poo vey.
wh o dropped to 12th at the finish. " I
felt alright, I would 've done great if
it weren 't for that jump!"
