Forstn er silting on his Teaf wheel. Morel was
ha rd pressed lO stay on the groove, as Lowe

into the white flag. As Morel went hi gh and
Lowe went low, For stn er took advantage o f
a hol e big enough to drive a sem i th ro ugh .
Forstner found th e fast line a nd stuck to it
till th e flag dropped.

Mashue ma y hav e lost h is bid lor th e
chec kered fla g in th e Pro -Am 500, but he
picked it up in th e Open Pro-Am final. After
followin g Gorden Sch o piera y a ro u nd the
track in the first hea t, Mashue turned the tables
when the mo ney was down, sho\\o; ng Scho o
pieray the fastest way arou nd the lIac k in the
final.

Pa t Benn ett came fro m 1hh po sition on the
lin e to win th e Bo u n ty H Unier Race in
co n vi nci ng fa s h ion at t h e C howc h i l la
Fairgrounds,
T he Bou n ty Hunter Race ha s always been
the mo st intense even t of th C' program, but
th is night's race was one o f lhe stranges t of
th e seaso n. Five of the 12 riders who started
the 10·lap main eve nt fai led to finis h ,
including th e night's fastest qualifier, Ra y
Crumb. Crumb had put h i. Kaw asak i in 12th
p lace on the line by virt ue o f wi nning both
motos in both th e 125 and 2500c Pro races.
Alm o st a second a lap faster th an th e next
qualifier, Crumb wa s the od ds-o n favorite to
bliu 10 the front o f th e Bounty Hunter Race.

Crumb had passed hall th e field , and on lap

In the 125cc Pro qualifiers , Bennett had
chased Crumb every lap o f both motos, but
was unable to get aro und. Now il was Crum b's
