But he was also caught out by the duff supplementary starting lights. and was left behind as the others sped off. Gresini led the first lap, but Ca pirossi passed him firmly o n the pit straight at the start of the next, and was never headed, charging away to win by 6.547 seconds. It was his third win of the year. extending his title lead with apparent ease. Behind h im, Gresini w.s b u sy fending off Wa ldmann . with Gabrielle Debbia gradually losing touch behind. Waldmann moved into second on lap eight. but it seemed that Gresini was equal to his charge, and kept the pressure on u nt il the German kicke d again to secure second by just over two seconds. . Most o f the action came in the wake of th is group•. where G P debutant Carlos Giro (son of the Ossa builder and Ca bas fra me-maker ) led the group for fou r laps. with fell ow-Spaniard Sanc hez on another Cabas tu cked in behind him. But th e Japanese were coming, a nd by the finish Veda ha d moved through from 14th on lap o ne to fifth, ahead of Dirk Raudies. They finished in th a t order. wit h G iro and Sanchez all w i t h in the sa m e second. and Martinez close behind, just a tenth ahead of Alessan dr o G ra m ign i 's Aprilia. An other tight group cla imed the last poin ts - the H ondas of Unernoto and T ak ada narrowly defeating Adi Stadler 's Ap ril ia. Capirossi now leads by a su bsta ntial margin, with 151 points (126 net). Gresin i has 136 (123), Wa ldmann 120 (104), and Veda 85 (85). Sidecar GP The last race of th e day saw sim Ila r vicissitudes with people confused by the sta rt ing ligh ts, but Rolf Biland mad e no mistake. and led fro m sta rt to fini sh. Pol e-starter Webster got a wa y badly, fifth after la p o ne, but quickly fought h is way th ro ugh to second. But by the time he go t th ere, "everyth ing was too hot. Abbott was also co ming through from behind. and was hauling with th e German when Streuerarrived. also th e victim of a bad sta rt. Klaffenbock retired with six laps left . by th en the field was spread ou t, with the closest front-running ba tt le be tween Streu er and Abbott, th e Dutchman claiming fourth by two seconds. Kumano was sixth, ahead of a real brawl, with th e Guedels and Bo h nhorst cross ing the line well wi thin the next second. Webster reta in ed the title lead, with 117 poin ts gross and net. Biland is seco nd on 108 (95 net), Guedel third with 86 (78 net ).
