If that incen tive was not ihere, I think my inte rest wo uld be less. Previously I wo u ld come in fro m the track and kn ow that somethi ng was not working well in, say, the rear suspe nsion. Now I have muc h more of an idea wh a t part of the suspension we need to adjust. I wou ld not pretend that I am an expert yet, but it is coming. I have to learn it over the years. It's not something which I want to rush. I enjoy motocross an d I think it is important to keep it like that. It has to be serious, but it also has to be fun . When you won the 125cc class at the Paris Supercross at the end of last year, you announced th at you hoped to race some early ro unds of the AMA 125cc Regional Supercross Championship this year, but you didn't. Why not? We just never got the details worked out last winter. I still pl an to do it next winter. It was too la te to arrange the support from Ame rican Suzuki last wint er, bu t in the end the time was not right. I did too many supercross races in Europe last year, racing right up u ntil t he week before Christmas. I pl an to rest in Decemb er th is year, so that I can start my 1992 build-up in America and carry i t straight th rough to th e European ou tdoor seaso n. What do you see as the relative importance of supercross and out door motocross? I know tha t wh en I do a full seaso n of supercro ss, I am ge tting tired of it and my though ts are about the next season' s C Ps. Once the World Cha m ionshi p is over, I am ha p py to race the su percross agai n. Supercross is fun, and perhaps I will follow the exa mple of Jean-Michel Bayle a t some time in the fu ture and commi t myself to a season o f supercross in the United States, but a lot of th ings can happen. I'll just have to take it as it come s. Since the retirement of Eric Geboers, you have been catap ulted in to the rol e of being the ultimate motocross star in Belgium, Have you felt a n y increased pressure? Not really. T here was interst in me anyway and th at interest has only mai n tai ned its momentum. What are your interests outside motocross? ' • And for all the right reasons. "Supercross is fun, and perhaps I will follow the example ofJean-Michel Bayle at some time in the future and commit myself to a season of supercross in the United States." What I like to do most is J et Ski. There aren't so many places where you can ride a J et Ski in Belgiu m th ough , and the weathe r is also not ideal. My ot her in terest s are m u sic and moun ta in bikes: What are your plans for the future? Do you intend to continue to race 125cc . CPs? I hope to be able to renegoti ate terms with Suzuki. The bik es are very good and I think tha t Su zuk i is one of th e best bikes for me. Perh aps that is not the case, but tha t is how I feel. I hope to race 125cc CPs again next year, wh ether or not I am champion. But of cou rse if Suzuki said that they wanted me to go to the 250cc class, then I would go along with their 01 wishes. ~ Ca ll , wri te or FAX yo u r coll ectors want ads to Cycle News NOW!
