Other changes tha t the 250 shares wi th the 125 are a new Sho wa front fork whic h has increased inner tube stre ngth, im pro ved oil/dus t seals, better damping characteristics and larger protectors; new Showa rear shock with larger piston and cylinder; stronger front bra ke rotor wi th a th icker rear rotor; lar ger rear cus hio n lever bearing in th e sus pension linkage; and a new clu tch lever sha pe. The new RM s sho uld arrive at dealers in August. CI' New porting specs to the scavenging and exhaust ports are designed to enhance the RM250's midrange performance. TIle new RMs should bereItased in August. the RM 250 offeri ng a few refin emen ts, wh ile the RMSO is unchanged, excep t for new graphics which are featured on all the RMs. Besides the graph ic dif ference with a purple and yellow spl o tched seat and red/purple zebra stripes on the white rear fender and side panels, the RM125 feat ures severa l changes in an effort to gain more horsepower from the 124cc engine. The cra n kcase has been redesigned so that th e i ntake tract is straigh ter, and the intake man ifold has been shortened to help increase midra nge p o wer a n d boos t thro tt le response. A smoother-shaped ex ha ust pipe was designed for mor e top-end power. To handle the in crease in power, the pri mary gears have been strengthe ned' and clu tch pl ate di ameter increased. A magn esium d u tch cover replaces the old alu min um cover to cu t weight. A new fra me features a large-diameter, sq uare cross-sectio n backbone tube and the down tubes connec ting the back bone to the swingarm pivot are made of cross -sectio n tubing.
