In the 500cc class, Chuck Lee collided with Ch arl es Hopper halfway to the top, taking both riders out. Lee) foot was caugh t in the bike, and he was unable to get off the course for almost half of the race. This provid ed an addi tional obstacle for most of th e Pro class riders. including Roeseler, who had a sho rt yellow-flag sectio n durin g their runs. Englund eventually shot u p the h ill with a time of 13:29.53 to demol ish the 250cc Pro class . Roeseler top ped the 500cc Pro class, tu rn in g in a 13:40.34. Th e hard lu ck award went to Summers, who slid out and fin ished way back. Sum mers used the most unconven tional techniques of all the riders, som etimes picking lin es that were comp letely off the roa d, looking for traction. In the Amateur clas s ranks. th e fastest rider was Scott Dunlavey, who rode a 500cc MXer to a tim e of 14:18.31. The Open Amat eur class was slig h tly slower with Al T rzyna using a KTM 540 to net a 14;21.19 and th e class win . Other riders of note: The top Over40 rider was Team Gr een Su pported Ch ris H ai nes (14:20.89). The top Over50 rider was Mickey Aizoia (14:32.97). Mo st significant dad was Wade Su mmers (Scott's father ), who finis hed fifth Open Amateur.
