American Billy Liles is currently eighth in the 500cc MX GP poi nt standings. Bart oli ni grabbed the holeshot and quickly opened up a small lead on Kurt Ljungq vist and Jeremy Whatley. Jobe and Martens fiercely batt led over fourth, which turned into a battle for third when Whatley crashed. Mart ens worked up to snatch first fro m Bartolini by the seventh lap, bu t Jobe zapped them bo th a short time later. Fro m there J obe moved away to win by four seconds. American Bill y Liles started II th but charged up to challenge Martens for second at the end. Liles a lternpted to pass over the final jumps approaching the finish li ne, bill Martens .held him 0[£, David Thorpe finis hed 20 seconds behi nd in fourth while Whatley recovered from his crash to take fifth. just a few seconds behind Thorpe. Whatley battled pa st Brian Wheeler for second, while Martens soon moved in o n Whatley and followed hi s lines until the Engl ishman tired. Marten s fin ished second, six seconds ahead of Whatley. Ljungqvist and Stuart Coy le rounded out the top five. L iles wa s taken out in th e fir st turn and eventually finished 15th.
