th e last rider in th e I:22 seco nd range.
At 1:23 flat, Tripp Nob les was fifth
fastest "qualifier , a nd highest ranking
T op Expert.

When th e race got underwa y, H eino
led wit h a grea t hole shot. Turkingto n ,
sta rting fro m th e middle o f the seco nd
row , flew by Crevier, w ho was gr idded
im med ia tely in front of him, to trail
Hein o into th e firs t tu rn. Ti tia n Bue
was thi rd, Ru ssell , Crevier and Nobles
foll owing closely.
At th e end of th e fir st lap, TurkingIOn passed Hein o down the straigh t
for th e lead. On the next la p , Russell
and Crevier nipped Bu e, relegati ng
him to hi s fifth -pl ace fin ish ing posi tion , a nd Top Expert honors. On th e
th ird la p , Russell was up to seco nd
behind T urkin gt on, a nd Crevier was
push in g H ein o q uite hard, but was no t
qu ite able to get aro u nd him .
Russell took the lea d o n th e nex t go
aro u nd, with H ein o and Crevier still
battl in g; it to ok Crevier until th e
sevent h la p to mak e hi s pass, at which
point he also darted around Turkington. Later , H ein o was so mew ha t
d istressed about th e Two Bro th er s'
bike: "T ha t damned thing handles so
well , he (Crevier) was just walking
arou nd us in the in field , a nd it was
fast down th e stra igh ts too ."
T hi s wa s a se n ti me nt b etter
exp ressed by No bles, who was co m mentin g o n many o f his numero us
high Su persport fin ishings as being
"the first stree t bi ke across the line."
On th e eig hth lap Nobles, wh o was
running six th , p itt ed with a flat rear
tire. In their best endurance race

Team go t th e rear wheel changed
quickl y enough that he on ly lost a la p ,
but that was enough - no cha m p ionship po ints for No bles th is tim e.
T he final fin ishing order saw R ussell wit h a sizable lead over Crevier ,
wh o in tu rn had a decent lead over
the battlin g du et o f H einolTurkingIOn. Turkington had ma naged 10 ho ld

The next four fin ishers were all T op
Expert class rid ers, and consisted o f
Bue in fifth , followed by Mike Moores
on a CBR600 , Lou is Saccoccio, a nd

Knigh t rou nded o u t th e top ten .
