Picotte takes over for Polen Wisconsin 's Scott Zampach (204), Tripp Nobles (4) and Nigel G ale stayed this close in the Twins Sport ra ce; Zampach hel d on for the win a t his home racetrack. JUNE 30 a nadi a n Pascal P ico tte fill ed in admirably for Doug Pol en , riding th e Fast By Ferracci Duca ti to the GPI victory at Road America af ter a race- lo ng battle with Gia Ca M ote's Jimm y Adamo, Riding the Ducati V-twin for th e firs t time ever, P ico tte kept Era ld o Ferracci ' s impeccable GPI record in tact with a 3.719-second win over Pro Twins veteran Adamo. P ico tte averaged 97.051 mph in comp leting the 10lap, 40-m ile race in 24 m inu tes, 43.760 seconds. A distant th ird place in GPI went to Team Leoni Du cari's Pab lo Rea l, wh o la ter complained of a lac k of fro nt brakes, wi th AMO L Precision 's Ku rt Liebmann and Buell 's Scott Zampach ro unding out the top five finishers. For the second straight race, Fast By Fer raccis Step hen Mathews came away with the GP2 victory o n his Duca ti. The Georgian ended up finishing fifth overall, desp ite starting with the rest of the GP2 class in the second wave. Mathews was followed home by th e Ducati of Scott Williams with Peter Johnson 's Honda and Jussi Hautanierni's Ducati rounding out th e top five GP2 finishers. With Po len competing in the World Superbike Series in Austria, Pico tte managed to carry the Ferracci nag in style. The Canadian .followed Adam o fro m the start wi th the New Yorker leadin g every lap excep t for the one that ma ttered - the final one. Tha t was P icotte's. Real had third place secured fro m the start a nd hi s race was a lon ely one. Fourth place was held in itially by Zampach , but th e Milwaukee, Wisconsin ; resi dent ran off th e track, losing severa l pl aces in the process. H e would move ba ck up th rough the field to finish fifth . Followin g Zampach 's demise, Liebmann was a ble to coast to fourth pl ace in GP I wh ile also managing to hold off the leadi ng GP2 ri ders. T he th ree combined added up to a win in the Harley-Davidson Twin Sport Series for Wisconsin 's own Scott Zampach. . But as usual, this one wasn 't decided A until three riders crossed the finish li ne cl ose enough to be covered b y a ha ndkerch ief. It was Zampach's day, but o n ly just, aft er a titanic battle with Bartel's Harley-Davidson teammat es T rip p Nobles and Nigel Gale. Zampach, o n th e T ill ey HarleyDavidson, seemed to be holding some th ing in reserve, however, and he was able to em erge from the Road America forest with a last-lap lead that wo u ld hold to the finish . Only .471-o f-a-seco nd behind Zampach, though, came the battling Ba rtel' s . boys with Nobl es nipp ing his teammat e at the fin ish line. Andy Fen wick fin ished fourth wit h Brett Donahue fifth. By the seco nd lap the top three had broken clear from the pack, with Richard Ko ehler alone in fo u rth. Koeh ler would retire on the four th lap with ignition problems, allowing first Donahue a nd then Fenwick to take over the position. U p fro nt, the race went th e distance. Gale led Zampach and Nobles into tum five on the final go-around, but wh en th ey emerged fro m th e forest it was Zampach with a margin he wou ld carry to the finish. Nobles managed to nip his teammat e a t the finish line for second place. When asked if he's getting sick of rubbing elbows with his teammate, Gal e answered: "I never get tired of bumping handlebars, but th ey keep beating me. It 's a lot of fun when we get together.
