Day two feat ured Sa turday's trail run backwards - and two grass track and o ne terra in special tests. "We've got four guys wit hi n o ne seco nd ," said Roeseler moments befor e Su nd ay's ride. Roeseler lived up to his words, as he raged in the first grass track test, to pp i ng the seco nd-best score turned in by Hough - by four secondsl Hatch was six secon ds orr Roeseler's pa ce; Lewis was nin e seco nd s back. Bertram cont in ued to set the fas test tim e in the O pen division , while T om Webb moved closer to class runner-up Richard Math ers. Rhodes, agai n , aced the L /W Four-Stroke class, while Jason Dahners topped th e Heavyweights, though Wilcox co mmanded the cla ss o vera ll. Lewis' fin e ride came to an end in the next terrain test wh en hi s bike blew a head gasket , letting coo la nt seep into the cylinder. With Lewis sidelined, th e battle for the overall narrowed down among Roeseler, Hough and Hatch. Again, Roeseler raged in the terrain test , clocking the fastest time, topping Hough by six seconds and Hatch by I I. This gave Roeseler a 10 second lead for the overall over Hough and 16 points over Hatch. Hawkins continued to pull away from th e 125cc competitors, as did Bertram in th e Open class , and Rhodes and Wilc ox in the LlW and H /W Four -Strok e classes . Duronso extended hi s lead in th e Senior division. In the final test of the even t - a gr ass track - Hough kn ew th is would be his last chance of ca tch ing Rbeseler, and he went for it l Hough ticked off the fastest time, remarkably six seconds faster th an Roeselerl Unfort u nately for H o u g h , who is see ki ng h is first Qualifier overall win of the year, he came up four seconds shy of reeling in Roeseler. Hatch also gave it his all , perhap s too mu ch , as he crash ed hard in the grass track special test. " I felt really good, but th e fro nt end broke loo se whi le I was wide open in fourth gear on a downhill sweeper, and I just canwheeled, " said Hatch afterwards.
