Schultz streaks to Houston Pro Stock win By Scooter Kizer Photos by Au to Imagery 22 HOUSTON,TX, MAY 8 he Vance & Hines Kawasaki and the Star Racing Suzuki of John Myers met on ce again, in the fina l round of the Orient Express Pro Stock T Shoot-Out. Sch ultz cap tured th e win with a .052 second margin of victo ry. Ro un d o ne action saw seco nd fastest qualifier, Schultz and fast qualifier, Myers defeat their ' respective opponents to transfer to the semi finals. Myers faced off against the Suzuki GSX R of Lan ce Boyer, and won decisivel y with a 7.86 secondll67 mi le per hour run, over Boyer's 8.14/163. Dave Schultz took out the Suzuki en try of Rick Gero on a Suzuki with a similar 7.85/168 to a 8.13/161. Lane choice in th e final round went to Sch u ltz, wh o choose the right la ne, whi ch on th is da y was the correct choice. All 10 eliminator winners won in th e right lane. Myers pulled the usual , bu t co nserva tive lead from the tree w ith a .456 react ion ti me to Schultz's .468. Myers kept the advantage as both riders launched to iden tica l 1.18 60-foot times. At the halfway point, Schu ltz pulled alo ngside Myers with a two mile-per-hour adva nta ge. Wi th a o ne-whee l length adva ntage , Schultz beat Myers with a 7.81/165. After two even ts, both riders are tied in points for th e O rient Express Pro Stock Shoot-Out, with 2030 points each . Elm er' T rett wo n.the second round of th e EBC Brakes Top Fuel Classic, wh ile bumping th e mph record to 213 mph. Treu stole the show by qualifyin g with a 6.77/ 213,and entertaining th e cro wd with three Sunday passes under 6.80 seconds , and over 211 mph. In ro und o ne, Treu faced T ony Lang. T reu won easi ly, while Larry McBride, T erry Kizer and Ron Webb also advanced to the semis. As McBride and Treu began to stage, McBride's motor seized a blower, giving Treu a b ye into the finals. R o n Webb advanced into the finals with a personal best of 7.03/190.27 after Kizer discover ed a fried clutch while attempting his burnout. The final round thrilled the crowd, as Treu blazed down the quarter mile with a 6.66/212 aga in st Ron Webb 's 7.38/ 154.45. In th e R ivera/Primo Top Fu el Harley Clash , Jim McClure padded his points lead with his back to back National event wins, while Chu ck Foreman moved into fourth in the points wi th his final ro und appearance. McClure's biggest th reat of the weekend came in the semi finals, while facing Bill Fu rr. Furr fai led to muster up the winning combi na tion , and was defeated by McClure's 7.68/168 over hi s 7.90/ 160. Foreman defea ted Anson Holley with a 8.06/1 60 to 8.26/ 155. Holley had narrowly escaped a severe crash d urin g q ua lifying the day before, when h is bike developed a serious case of wobbles as he nearl y crossed the center line. Foreman pulled a slight advantage off the line in the final round, but he was no match for the top end power of the Master Performance machine of McClure, who pulled off a two bike advantage at the finish line with a 7.62/169 to Foreman's 7.87/162. R oo kie P ro Comp racer R ickey Gadso n repeated his victory performance in the Slick 50 Pro Camp Series, gaining a 1200 point lead. In round o ne, G adson defeated Vin ce Testa, a nd Dw igh t Seldon defeated Mike Wettstein. Rick Ball eliminated Mack Nutt, and David Lednicky too k out Kevin Cadby. Rou nd two saw Gadson adva nce to the finals by beating fast qualifier Dwight Seldo n with a slower time. Gadson 's .504 reaction time over Seldon's .532 gave him the .015 margin of victory with a slo wer 7.51/177 to Seldon's 7.49/173. Rick Ball faced off against David Lednicky, with Led nicky coming out on to p with a 7.75/ 170 to Ball 's 8.74/104. Final round action left Lednicky seeing red. Led nicky threw away a sure victory , wh en he left the starting lin e o n ly .006 of a seco nd early. Gad son sco red h is seco nd victory in a row, . with a slower 7.86/ 169 to Lednicky's 7.67/170. at
