Abbott wins again at San Manuel Hare & Hound By Michael Ross SAN MANUEL, AZ, APR.28 Destry Abbott muck agai n at round three of the American Desert Racing Associa tio n 's Deser t Championship Series with h is third consecutive win in as many races. Abbott do m ina ted the 55-m ile long co ur se while others like curren t number o ne plate holder Jdf Darland and Sen ior Experts Ken Ko zlik and Craig Connor stru ggled wit h cras hes a nd mechan ica l prob lem s. 'This was my best race ever," said the KTM , B&:R Developm ent , Dirt a nd Street U nlimi ted sponsored Gl endale resident after the race. "I was worried ab ou t Darland, so when I loo ked bac k a nd didn 't see anybody I started to th in k [ look a wrong turn," . But th e reserved dese rt ace had nothin g to worry abou t beca use Darl and cras hed four times on th e first lap and decided to ca ll it a day shortly alter the second. " It's been a lo ng tim e since I haven't finished a race," said the four -time number one p la te holder . Offi cials had a har d time ge tting the eig htla p race underway. On the first try , a fi V ~ rider pi leu p in the first tum caused a red flag . Jesse Finch , ru n over by severa l riders in the inci den t. jumped th e restart and referee J im Fish bck sent him to the penalty line. O n the third try, Don O do m screamed into the lead with Hami ll second . Ham ill tried to pry the lead away as they exited tum four th e first time, but Odom held him off. Ham ill sped ins ide Odom and ga ve h im a tap as they bega n lap two . That sho t Odom to the o utside a nd gave Hami ll the lead all to himself. . As they came out of four, Schwartz tried to pull it down on Lucero, but he couldn't ge t clear. Lu cero held hi. ground a nd by the end of th e lap he was bac k in Iro nt, H a m ill , hopi ng to fi nd a hole 10 go throug h, came in -t oo hard in tum o ne on th e second lap a nd had 10 pa rk 10 avoid dri lli ng Lucero a nd Sch wanz. That ended his hopes of snaring an el usive dean sweep . Lu cero took a o ne-length advantage o n lap two. He kept his Shoei/Tearn Scopeliue/ Ra ceera hers/ O ilzall/ O akl ey Weslake glued to th e pole and at the finis h had his second Co sta Mesa win of 1991. Schwartz finished a clo se second followed by H am ill and Pfetzing. Rodney Farris powered to the main event win at East Win dsor Speedway short track. Jenny Hayden came 0 [[ the line with the ho lesbor with bro ther Roger Hayden in second and Goodwi n in th ird. Goodwin worked his way into second place after passing Roger Hayden. Good win got th e inside lin e 0 [[ of tum fou r to closely overtake Jenn y Hayden and drew ou t the lead 10 take the 65cc win . Jen ny Hayden fini shed second ahead of Roger Hayden in third, an d Bra ndo n Rose finished fourth. In the 85cc class Nicky Hayden got 0[[ the line with the lead and won the race by a straightaway. Jen n y Hayden scored second and Beau Braswell finis hed third The 86-2OOec class started 0 [[ with a red nag resulting fro m David Menser of Hendersonville, Kentucky, falli ng in turn one. Tommy Hayden holeshot the 20fkc final. Nicky Hayden started in seco nd, but was unab le to ho ld 0[[ David Men ser, who took o ver second on the inside straightaway. Menser ho leshot the 250cc fin a l, a hea d of Eddi e Reagor and T ommy Hayden.
