Round four of th e CMC Northern Ca li forn iaNevada Spring Series came to Ar~1l Park,
where Rodney Sm ith deftl y top ped both th e
125 a nd 250cc Pro classes.
UFO / FMF/ Dublin Su zuki -backed Smi th
took con tro l o f bo th 125cc Pro mo tos in the
early go in g and stayed th ere for the win s. In
the first moto, Gr eg Tirheim er was able to
cha lle nge a co u p le of times in th e firs t hal f
bu t spe n t th e rem ainder of th e race di ci ng with
J on Nelson. At th e chec kered , it was T irheimer in second with Nelson th ird. Myers was
fourth with Scooter McEl ro y, wh o was an
early challenger, slippi ng to fifth a t th e finish.
Myers stuck to Smith In mota two. but had
to settle for second and seco nd o veral l. Nel son
scored another third for third o vera ll, wh ile
T irheimer s ~n t th e mota makin g up for a
first turn spill workin g up to sixth to claim
fourth overall.
Smith topped Myers each tim e o u t in the
250cc Pro class. Coupe was hot in th e first
moto and finished thud ah ead of Ron All en
and Nelson, but Coupe did not start moto
two. Nelson claimed third pl ace while All en
finished fourth.
Dave Coupe roosted aw ay in both rnot os
for the win in th e Vet Pro class. Randy
Chapman finished second ahead of Dave
Wood in th e first moto but Wood stormed
back in more two . Chapman and Wood traded
second and third thro ugho u t th e rnot o, but
when it was over Wood claimed the runnerup spot. Suzuki -mounted Bill Jamerson
seemed content - even ' happy' - lo watch
the battle from his fourth place spot each moto
to claim fourth overall. A pair of fifths and
fifth overall went to Kawasaki-mounted Ray
"Spodie" Spore.
Tyler Hummel topped Mik e Hodges in
both 250cc Intermediate motos for the o vera ll ,
but had a little trouble with Sh an e Esposito
in the 125cc Intermediate class. Hummel won
the first moto ah ead of Esposito. but a cra sh
in the early ~oing of moto two helped Esposito
fly to the WIn. Hummel was able to remount
and advance to second, but there was no
catching Esposito.

and passed Scou Sa ntmeye r. Wert heiner then
took third fro m Stein in fro nt of th e spectat ors
and claimed the lead by j um p ing pa st

T akanotsu Koyama raced to victories in th e
600 and 750 Superstreet classes at round four
of th e ARRA Sprint Seri es, held at Will ow
Springs Ra ceway. Koyama narrowly missed
co mp leting the hat tri ck wh en he crashed on
th e wh ite flag lap while enjoying a healthy
lead in th e 600 Modified Production clas s.
T wo Brothers/Bridgeston e-ba cked Koyama
~o t an excellen t ~ tart from th e seven th row
111 th e 600 Superstreet class , and by turn four
had worked into th e top five. A red flag flew
wh en series points leader Michael Benson
parted co m pan y with hi s Yamaha while
en tering tum fou r.
Andy Milton gr abbed th e ear ly lead at th e
restart, with Sco tt Conaway. David Francis
and Raymond Hathcock in tow . Koyam a got
ano ther good start and began to clo se on th e
lead ers . Within laps, Koyama had sliced
through the field a nd assumed co ntrol of the
lead position. Om:eo u t front, Koyama pulled
out to a com manding lead and finished well
ahead of Francis and Milton.
