"It took me a whi le to get my second wind," said Krause. "I had a good loop and a half at the beginning but th e last half of the second loo p tired me o u t. After more than three hours of dueling, less th an 30 seconds sep arated the top three racers as Roeseler shot pa st th e check ered flag , wit h Sweetland claiming the Open class honors in second and Lewis taking secon d 250cc Expert in third . After the race, Sweetland hardly had the energy to smile. " Lewis pushed me and pushed me. I'm whooped," Sweetland said. " I had a really bad threekick start, so 1was dead last but 1passed a lot of people in the first loop and had a good ride after that." Lewi s' slow beginning lasted a li ule longer. " I didn' t really get go ing until .the last loop . 1 was stiff an d tight for a long tim e," said the KTM -backed racer. " I' ve never run that high up at th e front, and it's hard j ust follo wing th e ribbon witho ut some tracks to .go wi th it. They need to bu y some arrows." . Searle crossed the lin e five minutes beh ind the leaders to claim fourth overall and edge Suzuki RM250 racer Ma ughan o ut of third 250cc, and Krause too k second O pen Expe rt in sixth overall. J im Thompson's H onda powered home in seven th ahead of Musgrave, and Honda 's Ch uc k Miller edged Darin Cart wright out of th e Vet class win in ni nth overall.
