Stevenson.
Brown (483) led the majori ty of Sunday's 125cc ma in un til he was hit from behind
and stalled in a turn. J erom y Buehl (25) recovered fro m a fall to win the race.
Emig finished seventh , the last rider
to finish on the lead lap. Stephenson
finished eighth ahead of Jeff Ward, and
Matson was the first privateer at 10th.
125cc main
10
in the first semi before his chain broke,
finished second behind Andrews in the
LCQ to earn the last transfer position
to the main event, Taylor just missed
again, but his $900 for finishing third
was more than what the fifth-place
finis her would earn in the main. The
adm inistrative error escaped few riders
and didn't escape AMA MX Professional
MX Manager Roy Janson , who said he'd
seen the error but not before the payout schedule had already been mailed
to the compe titors. Normall y, the third
pla ce fini sher in the' LCQ would receive
less than the 20th place fini sher in the
final.
Bradshaw settled the main event righ t
from the start when he blasted ahead
of Bayle. DeHoop gave his local fans
something to cheer about as he got away
third and stayed there for several laps
before tirin g and fading back to 13th.
" I felt good the first five laps," said
the Hu dsonville nat ive. " Bradshaw and
Bayle's pace was too much for me right
now ."
The top two riders disappeared from
the pack, and althoug h Bradshaw never
got out of sight, Bayle was comem to
watch from second
" Bradshaw was riding well and I
didn't want to take the risk to catch
him," said Bayle. " It 's a twO-day race,
so it's good to finish 1-2 instead of 110."
After Del-loop's demise, Emig held
down third and gaye each of the four
riders who passed him before the finish
a good look at his front wheel. Tichenor
'was the first to go by, then La Rocco
followed by Kiedrowski, both of who m
had charged up throu gh the pack after
Kiedrowski fell in the second com er and
held up La Rocco, and finall y Cooper.
Emig gave each rider a fight. ridi ng them
high in the turns, even a fter being
passed
. " If I don't stick a wheel in they' ll think
I'm just there, like a lapper," said Emig.
"I' ve got to show them I'm as tough
as anyone else; if I don 't they'll walk
all over me."
T ichenor, who was riding with the
wrist he injured ear lier in the season
heavily taped , had his arm pump up
and wisely backed off, which allowed
La Rocco to take third away from hi m
at the halfway poim and Kiedrowski to
get by and into fourth several lap s later.
Tichenor held on to fifth and Cooper
was unable to catch him as he lost time
bat tling Fisher, who began to slow near
the end as his KTM blew a base gaskeL
The resulting loss in power caused
Fisher to crash in the whoops, and he
pulled out of the race.
Sunday's 125ccmain turned out to be
the most exiciting race of the weekend
Mike Brown scooted off with the 'lead
on the start as Swink got squeezed into
the hay bales and cras hed in the first
tum. Brown 's lead quickly grew as
Palmer. ru nning a dose second initially,
struggled to keep Vohland behi nd.
Vohland got by on lap two and Hughes
followed him through, with second-h eat
winner Buehl joining them a couple of
laps later.
Buehl continued his charge un til he
was in second and rapidly gaining on
leader Brown , but his charge ended on
lap nine when he got out of sha pe in
th e whoops and fell . Vohland and
H ug hes charged pa st with Hughes
taking second a lap later.
T ension grew as Brown , who was
recently hospitalized with strep throat
foll owing the Marc h 24 Han g town
National, appeared to be tiring and
Hughes q uickly closed in. But he got
too close in the section of the track that
carried the riders up into the stands,
clip ped Brown 's rear tire and went
down. As the crowd roared , Brown lost
momentum, stalled in the tum and gave
up the lead to Vohla nd
Buehl, however, had charged back
from his fall and made the last lead
change when he passed Vohland on the
same lap.
" If I would've fell any later I wouldn't
have been where I was," said an elated
Buehl after having won his second ma in
even t in as man y weeks.
" Buehl was on it," said Vohland, who
finis hed second in the race. " I go t to
first place, but he was stro nger."
Bro wn hung on to finish third as a
bau ling Barry Carsten and Hughes
closed in near the finish . New Jersey's
Carsten heU off Hughes to finish fourt h.
Swink crashed again as he charged
through the pack and 'finished seventh
behind Henry , who had won the first
