Cardus had j umped into the lead from the start and by the time Cada lora mad e his way to second he was over three seconds in arrears. Zeelen berg, wh o 'd been fastest here in un official testing and had taken the po le pos itio n, moved back and forth among the second group taking third . on th e sevent h lap, befor e losin g it two laps later. It wasn 't until th e 13th lap that he too k it back for good and by then he was over six seconds behind the lead ers with no hope of catchi ng the m. " We made a lot of changes after practice and it took me some tim e to get used to the bik e," the Du tchman said. " Once I adjusted I sta rted to go a littl e faster." Germa ny's Helmut Brad l moved into fourth with three laps to go and held off Japan 's Masahiro Shi mizu. T he 12th lap was Cada lora 's fastest of the race as he mo ved up on Cardus and he started the 17th lap in the lead , thou gh th e Spa niard wasn' t gi ving up. He regained the point o n the 18th lap and held it until they approached the ch icane o n th e last lap. T he n Cadalora draft ed past Card us, shutting the doo r on him mu ch to the Spa niard 's dismay. Fro m there it was a race to th e flag with the Ital ian winning. " I got in front, but I coul d no t get away and he was faster than me in o ne or two pl aces," Ca dalora said. "Erv had do ne a good job on my bike th ough and it was fast down th e stra ig h t. I wa s o n ly thinking o f keep in g as much to th e r ig h t as possi b le at the chicane o n the last lap beca use it is normal for the rider beh ind to try and pa ss o n that side."
