Jerem y McGrath charged &om nearly last to finish third in the 125cc main, Mike Craig (88) leads Jeff Emig (18) and Jimmy Gaddis (55) at the stan of the 125cc Western Regional main. Emig passed Craig on the first lap and went on to win. Guy Cooper (5) and Mike Kiedrowski (4) battled until Cooper was forced off the track and dropped several positions. Kiedrowski finished fi£th while Cooper was ninth. Emig was all smiles after he won his first 125cc main event of the season. " I caught th e flu Thursday when I was ridi ng with Stanton at Hondal and - I can't breathe - my nose is all stuffed up." Emig's win mov ed him into sixth in the poin t standi ngs, only two po in ts out of fourth. Results ring a m istake, Emig was going to wi n his first 125cc Supercross of the year. The Team Yam aha rider opened up a five-second lead over Craig, whose Kawasaki was h indered by a smas hed exhaust pipe: Craig , however, man aged to claim the runner-up slot ahead of McG rath . Suzuki's Buddy Antunez started the race in sixth behind J immy Gaddis and Phoenix, Arizona 's Jimmy Button, the winner of the second heat race. Button cras hed on the first lap and that set up a battl e between G add is and Antunez for fourth that Antunez would later win . Aside fro m McG ra th, La wrence was th e o n ly othe r ri der who charged through th e pack wit h any significant results. T he Cherry Valley, California, rider came from las t to finish sixth ahead of Ch ris You ng , Lamson and Ray Crumb. Bu tton , who crashed on the opening lap , finis hed 10th in fron t of Dan a Wiggins, Chad Pederson, and the winner of the Las t Ch an ce Q ualifier, Travis Hodges. " It was great," said Emig. " I just mad e a couple of mistakes that were scary, but I stayed focused and concen tra ted on my ju mp ing. After a while th e track got real slick after th e mo isture came to the top. " " I was wondering what was happen in g," said Lee Craig, Mike's father. " I co uld see that somethin g was happen ing, bu t I didn't kn ow wh at ." " Why does it always happen to me?," said McG rath. " I was abou t fifth, and wa s lining up fo r the wh oops, when someo ne didn 't shut off and hit me from behind and kn ocked me over.
