Staying warm and dry !though it sel do m ra in s i n southern California, it can sti ll get downrigh t col d. The onepiece Northwind cold weather rainsu it - and Elite Flexor gloves helped us get through the middle of California's winter, and a rar e but much -needed rainstorm . Designed for Hondaline by Hein Gericke, the Northwind 's PVC-coated A nylo n shell with overlapped, doublestitched and heat-welded seams does a good job of keeping water away from the rider's body . Although some cold air can enter throu gh the collar, it proved to be watertight in a two-hour ride through a steady downpour. We ended up sitting in a puddle, however, but this was traced to an improper seal at the side pocket access. Make sure the hook and loop fasteners on each side are firmly closed! The sui t and its Thermoliner insulation over a leather jacket and pa nts also kept us wann during h o u r-l on g co mm u tes when the tem pera ture dropped into the low 40s. The arti ficia l fur lining at the seat, knee and thigh areas adds a little more warmth and comfort, althou gh our legs go t a hint of chill after some time. Altho ugh th e Eli te gloves aren' t wa ter proo f, th ey have .p len ty of padd in g wh ich keeps the ha nds warm. T hey seem a bit bulky at first , but after a few rides the padding compresses a littl e bit for better feel on the grips. When the going gets wet, the gloves slow ly absorb wa ter until they're thoroughl y soaked. T he Northwind sui t is a lso availa ble as a two-p iece un it; both versions sell for $164.95. Sugges ted retail price for the Elit e gloves is $49.95. Both are available at Honda dealers. __eroducts Wearyou rCYCLE NEWS Hat, T-S or F Pack to tell everyone hirt, anny "Once a month is not enough."
