Tickets At Participating Yamaha Dealers feel that is truly competitive, a lot of . hard work is in order for everyone. What do yo u do for relaxation when you do hav e time off from your busy competition schedule? Relaxa tio n to me is riding my mountain bike. I also do a li ttle cross cou ntry and downhill skiin g. Everyth in g I do is p rett y mu ch athletic, I can ' t lay back to take a vaca tio n. I devote every day towards mo torcycling and my enduro career. 'H really respect Randy (Hawkins) for not having any problem-with me coming to Suzuki." What is your training regimen ? Do you slack off during th e season and work harder in the off-season? I keep it prett y mu ch constan t all year. I think that' s a formula to succes s. I'm ridi ng less than I used to ride, though , I used to ride seven days a week and for five to six hours each day. I cut do wn th e amo u nt of hours I ride and try to do qual ity tim e o n the bike. Wh ether it's o n a mo tocross track or on some of my practice trails around here. I try to go , at least , five times a week o n my mountain bike. I ride every mornin g with a group of loca l guys out of a sho p (T ru- Wheel Cycle) around here. We go out a t seven in th e mornin g and I've been doing it every day th is winter whether or not it's 10 below or 40 above. I also lift weigh ts. Do you set goals for yourself, besides the championships, and wh at are your long range plans? I think coming in to Suzuki, I ha ve a very good o pport u nity to be working with guys like Charles Halcomb and Mark Blackwel l. I can learn a lo t abou t the ind ustry. I wish to stay in th is industry, if not as a racer, working somewhere in it in the futur e. I sti ll enjoy the com peti tio n too mu ch to quit. I've learned a lot and feel I have a lot to teach ot her people. T here is a local kid around here that I've been helpin g out. His name is Chris Mak epeace and he's onl y 15, and I' ve been riding with him j us t about everyday and I enjoy teach in g him. I' d lik e a lo t to see him improve; he's on ly been ridin g for fo ur months. I'd like to rid e mor e rallys, this type of competition reall y excites me and I loo k forward to doin g more of th em . The GNCC Series is some thing new to me th is year , I'm lookin g forward to racing in it, as well . It 's probably one of the most competitive series in th e U.S., and I would like to do really well. If time permits, I can 'g et enoug h events in to wi n the championship. If it rains a lo t, I feel I can do very well in th e series beca use they ca n get diff icult, bu t if it doesn 't ra in, what they do at those events is run the fourwh eelers the day befor e to wide n o ut the track and that ma kes it really slippery. Is there anyo ne who you would like to thank for th eir su pport over the years? Yeah, Ma lcol m Smi th Raci ng has always been a part of my effort. This year I' ll be with Bel-Ray Oi ls, Sp rocket Specialists and Metzeler Tires. I feel you should stic k to one product if somebody's faithfu l to you and if a ll their products work th e way they are designed to. Staying with the m is a .good sign of faith and that's very im portant .to me. Bu t most of all, I would li ke to than k my fami ly for supporting me fro m the begi nning and all th rough th e years. 01 YA AHA Laguna Seca USGP ..
