"The third loop was easy but i~ got
rea lly fast and I lost exactly a minute,"
said Lewis, J r. " I was riding fine bu t
- there was a littl e bit of traffic and the
speed was just too fast. I thi nk everybody lost time."
Webb agreed, " Everybod y lost a t
least one poi nt in that sectio n: There
was nothing you cou ld do about it."
Whe n the raci ng was over and cards
were com pared for the last time, Lewis
had edged Webb ou t of the number
one spot by j ust 15 seconds, with Bill
Fullmer cla imi ng third just one minu te and 13 seconds behind.
" It was grea t fun," said Lewis, who
tha n ked KTM , Dural ube, Powerbar,
Metzeler and Scott.
Webb had high prais e for the Chapparals M.C. "The club did an incredibly good job with check p lacement,"
said the KTM / Dirt Rider Magazinebacked racer. "T hey would make you
think you 'd finished a section and
they'd snea k in a check. You cou ld tell
there are endur o riders in the club."
Fullmer claimed th ird overall with
th ree minutes an d 76 seconds, and
P arry fin ished fourth with th ree
mi nu tes a nd 146 seconds, j u st 12
seconds ahea d of Postel.
Low ell Spi va came out of retirement
to claim sixth overall.
Mesecher comp leted the course with
5 minutes and 81 seconds to take
seven th, and Mike Webb , Mike Keen
and John Ferro rounded out the top
10.

o therw ise perfect eveni ng was a second place
to Dan ny Moore in heat race number two of
th e 500cc class. In ·the O pen class heat race
an d 500cc and Ope n Iinal s, it was a smooth
an d det ermin ed McBee wh o grabbed the
ch eckers .first. The 500cc Expen fina l saw
McBee blast o il the line. wi th Danny Moore
and Frankie Garcia in hot pursuit. By la{' two
McBee had a com lorta ble lead o n bo lh nders,
wh o were eventually passed by Andy Tresser.
T resser bro ugh t his Yama ha wi thi n inches of
McBee a nd proceeded to try both in side and
outside lines in an effort to lind a way past.
Al the checkers it was McBee edgi ng ou t
Tresser. Gazd a was bar ely beat at the line lor
third by Moore.

250cc Novice fina l, aboard an ancien t Buhaco.

sufficien t entries to stage two heat races, wh ich
were won by Brell La nd es and Mau Czowley.
