~ SUPERCROSS AMA Amateur National Championship-SX-Series:-Round 5- - - - - -- - - - - - - - -- - - -- ~ Ezra Lusk (17)won the 125ccYouth class and finished third in the 125ccA class. Scott Paul (488) passed Bill y Adkins (16) and Alan Andreau (388) to claim the +25 class win . Andreau won the 30+ class. T y Harr is (55) won the first division of the 125l:c B class, bu t DNF his 250cc B final after finishing second in the heat: cla ss o ver Mississippi's Cary Morris before mo ving o n to the fie rce ly co nt ested Plus 25 division. In th e Plus 25 co ntest, Andreu squared off with Billy Adkins, who pulled off th e win in the qualifying heat over Andreu. At the star t of the main, it was Andreu wh o sho wed the way with Pat Barton latched to hi s rear fender as Adkins got awa y at midpack. After two laps of handlbar-banging, the Andreu and Barton du o tan gled and crashed. Ohio's Scott Paul took over the lead and held on for the victory. Adkins worked his way through traffi c and was second at the flag. Andreu got back underway and put o n an incredible blitz that netted third place honors while Barton had to settl e for sixth. FEB. 24 ver 500 riders from 31 stat es, Canada and Chile were on hand at the Atla nta/ Fu lto n Co unty Stadium for the openi ng rou nd of Wo rl d Sp o rts ' 8t h Annu a l T r i pl e Crown Series. T he Suzuki/ Honda / Dun lo p / Sco tt/Barr's/Renthal- spon sored event doubled as ro und five of the 18-race AMA Amat eur Nati onal Championship Supercross Series. Chris Young rode th e previous night's Pro Supercross event here and retu rne d Su nday to increase his earnings wi th a win in the 250cc A class and second in 125cc A actio n. Florida's Tim Ferry was the 125cc A winner. Ezra Lu sk, wh o won the 85cc (1415) cla ss here last year, ha s moved up to full -sized machinery and eas ily topped the I25cc Youth division. Lusk returned to fini sh a very close third behind Young in the 125cc A final. The 19 classes were broken down into 26 separa te divisions of 25 riders or less. Qualifying heats were run to d et~rmin e starting positions for th e rnams. In 250cc A raci ng, Kerry Mulligan won the qualifier ah ead of Young. At the start of the final, Mulligan grabbed . the lead again , but in th e late going O 34 Young too k o ver for the win. Mulligan held o n for second, Mike Treadwell of Maine was th ird while Bill y Silvarole mad e a lat e move to drop . Canadia n Brad Lockhart to fift h. Ferry kept hi s Kawasaki o ut in front of the Suzuki-do mi na ted I25cc A pack with apparent ease to wi n both the heat and the mai n event. Lusk moved up to cha llenge Young's hold on second late in the main. Young maintai ned second in the exciting finish over Lusk. J ohn Dean was fourth over Treadw ell. T y Harris and Brian Beh rmann were the sta ndo uts in B-Ievel com petitio n. Behrmann turned in convinci ng wins to claim I25cc B di vision two and 250cc B divi sion one honors while Harris outdista nced the 125cc B division o ne competition. Harris and Behrmann were paired in the 250cc B divis ion on e class where Behrmann won th e heat race over Harris. A matchup in the final did not materialize, however, as Harris DNF and Behrmann walked away with the win . Division two of 250cc B action saw Florida's Brian List come back from a crash in the qualifier to win th e main even t. Ohio 's Adam Merr ick fin ish ed eighth in the qualifier but charged in the fina l to claim runner-up honors over heat-winner Brandon Smith. Aaron Day and Richard Ibison rounded out the top five. Merrick retu rned in 125cc B division one action to finish second. Out of nea rly 100 125cc C riders and more than 60 250cc C competitors, Georgians Scott Moore and Mike Waters emerged as the top scorers. Moore finished second and Waters finished first in their respective 125cc C divi sions. Moor e and Waters then matched wh eels in the 250cc C division \ one class. Honda pilot Moore held the edge and won both the qualifier and the main over Wat ers. South Carolina's Rodney Scott won the 250cc divisi on two event, but in l25cc di vision .Iour actio n , Sco tt had to' settle for fifth, despite a first pl ace fini sh in the qual ifier. Kevin Lampe was th e 125cc runn er-up beh ind Walters. Bobby Silvarole sho wed th e way at the start of th e 5lcc Aut omatic final on ly to see J oshua Faustina go by for the win. T y Connor of Texas, was third behi nd Sil varol e. Ohio's Jason Juskae topped the 65cc. class over Nicholas Citron and returned in 85cc (7-11) action to fin ish fifth . The Horton brothers, Robb ie and Rich ie, fin ished first every time out in the 85cc (7-11) and 85cc (12-13) classes, respectively. Gregory Rand, wi nner in las t year's 85cc (12-13) class here, blasted away from the pack to take 85cc (14-15) ho nors for 1991. The 40 Pl us class was a thriller as Henry Gref ma de a last-second move to go past Randy Tillery for the win. Tillery held on to finis h second over T exan Tom Connor.
