At the end of th e da y, th e ta lly for the three Vintage Iron -support ed riders look ed like th is: Dough ty, first in Sportsm an 250cc Expert and Sportman Open T wins Expert , and second in Sportsman 125cc Expert; Greg O wen , first in Sportsman Open Twins Ama teu r, Premi er Open Twins Amateur a n d Prem ier Ama teur ; Kell y Owen , first in Pl us 30 Expert and fou rth in Sportsman 250cc Expert. T he hot test racing was in the 125cc Expert . divi sion , with Dough ty and Greg Bastek going at it in bo th motos, Bastek managed to keep his red H onda Elsinore barely ah ead of Dough ty's H on da for th e win each time. Ironicall y, Bastek was ridi ng a bike he purchased from Dou gh ty and took . delivery of just before the race. More good action came in the 250cc Expert class. Moto one saw a fierce bau le between Honda-mou nt ed Kell y Ow en and Dan iel Field on a C:Z. When O wen fell on the last lap, Field was po ised for the win, followed by a ha rdchargi ng Jim Meenan and Dough ty. Bultaco-mou nt ed Ti m Weaver led half of th e second moto, u ntil he spun out and allowed Dou gh ty past. Field pressured Dought y until he too ran into trouble and all owed Kell y O wen into th e second sp o t. At the flag it wa s Dou ghty, O wen , Weaver a nd Field. In other action , Barry Higgins cap tur ed the Pl us 40 Expert 'win on a 1974 KT M, the Sportsman 500cc Expert class on a BSA Thumper , and too k th ird in Sports ma n O pen T wi ns Expert on another Beezer, J eff Smi th rode h is BSA B50 to the Plu s 50 Expert victory and second beh ind Hi ggins in c:N th e 500cc Expert class.
