(advutj~men () las \egas Showcases The Best N~lional lIIo losport As socu lion SANCTIONED By Albert Beagle They come from all over the United States and five foreign countries, they come 1200 strong for the most prestigious event of its kind , the 20th annual World Mini Grand Prix. It started in 1972 at Indian Dunes on the regular motorcross trac k. In those days the one mile course looked like a Grand Prix to the mini riders hence the name "World Mini Grand Prix." The motoc ross World Cha mpions hip then I moved to Escape Co untry, Sad dleb ack Par k and finally to its current home in Las Vegas in 1985. This is truly a wor ld championship motocross for all racers with classes for Pee Wees, J r. cycles , Minicycles, the Super Minis, 125's, 250's, open and Veterans. Beginners through pros take to the course at Las Vegas Inte rnational Raceway. Grea t trop hies and prizes await those who participate from all the companies who sup port this world championship including Scott USA , Dunlop T ire s, ProCircuit, Boyesen Reeds, O'Neal Racewea r, Noleen, Ohlins, M ikuni, D ir t Squirt, Italjet, Radd Racing, Maxima Oil, Sunstar and Tsubaki Chain. Also great factory support and technical help from all the peop le at Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzu ki and Honda. The four factories have a combined total of over $75,000 up for grabs in cash and contingency awards. Th e newly added veterans class is being greeted with great ent husiasm. Some of the veterans were mini racers themselves and now have young sons filling those mini boots of yesteryear. The 20th annual World Grand Prix begins on Friday , April 19th. In the mo rning there will be practice for all classes. In the afternoon the first half of round one motos will be run. Saturday morning will see the completion of round one. The first half of round two will run Saturday afternoon and finish Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon will play host to the championship rounds. This is the race of races for motorcross fans everywhere and Las Vegas is the perfect setting for a world championship. There is loads of economical lodging, reasonable food and great night life for mom and dad. This event is one of those "don't miss it" annual motocross compe titions . Construction has been going on for the past two months, and with five weeks to go, the NMA will be set for the "Grand Opening" event. The new park is conveniently located five miles North of Downtown Las Vegas on Las Vegas Boulevard. It's very easy to gct there by going Nor th on Intcrstate 15to Craig Road right, two miles to Las Vegas Blvd., then left two miles, just across from Nellis Air Force Base. The new forty acre park is part of the Las Vegas Intcrnational Speedway, which is horne to all types of two and four wheel competition tracks. Ron Henricksen, President of NMA commented : w We're very excited to establish the first new motocr oss par k in the Western United States in many years.
