In mota o ne, Strang feld a nd Ray Legga te leaped a hea d of th e pack o u t o f the gate. Stra ngfel d tri ed to mai n tain first, bu t Leg gate was push in g Stra ng feld into every com er. Leggate wou ld gra b the lead for just a seco nd , the n Strangfeld wo ul d go deeper into th e co rner LO rega in it. L eggate wou ld fin d tractio n o u t o f th e comers a nd in ch a hea d, but Strangfeld would di~ deep and snatch th e lead back. T he aggress ion between th e two riders wen t o n lap a fter lap u nti l Crothers ca me fro m th e mi ddl e o f the pack, mo vin g into pos iti on and laun ch ed in to th e lead. Cro thers held o n to th e lead 10 the finish with Strangfeld and Le~gate still battling it o u t severa l len gths behind, Leggate sto le the holeshot in th e seco nd moto and Strangfeld struggled to pu t his illhandling Kawa sak i in front. S tra ngfeld managed to slip aro u nd Legga te go ing in to co mer two for the seco nd tim e. Leggate kn ew that Strangfeld was havin g ' problem s and pushed hard tr yin g 10 force Stra ngfel d in to a mi stak e. Crothers sta rted cree ping up on th e battling duo of Leggate a nd Stra ngfeld a nd decided to make it a three-way race for th e lead . Crothers found an inside lin e go ing into turn three to bump Leggate back a spot and th en set h is sights o n Stra ng feld . It took Croth ers ano ther lap before Stra n gfeld yielded. At thi s poi nt. Tom Croft had moved in to position to attack the lead pa ck o f Crothers, Strangfeld and Leggate, Crothers took the hard-earned win , Strangfeld struggled to ho ld o n to second and Croft edged o u t Leggate in a phot o fini sh . In the first Pr o heat race it wa s Kel! a nd Fisher side by side with Kell fina lly taking the adva ntage. Kel1 rod e a good, smooth line as he sho wed Fis he r the way home. J eff An ne n was a little too an xio us in heat two , which ca used a re start with Annen o n th e seco nd lin e. Steve H yson pulled a great hol eshot from th e ou tside to lead JeH Ek lu nd , Steve McCa u ley and the ot he rs in to turn o ne. Eklund hounded H yson and wi th a lap to go fo ught hi s way by for the win. Annen wound up fourth beh ind McCauley. At the sta rt o f the ma in, Eklu nd go t jammed between Kell , Fisher a nd H yson and was sen t to the g rou nd. After straig h ten ing a few th ings, Ek lund was read y to try it aga in. This time H yson got the scra tch, foll ow ed by An ne n, Kell . Mun yon a nd Fish er o n lap th ree. Fis he r ca ug h t F a nd passed both Annen and ire Kell goi ng in to turn o ne. The pass left Fish er right o n H yson 's rear end. A lap later Fish er passed H yso n comi ng out of tu rn two hi gh on th e inside bank.
