Kotajarvi too k it wire to wire in the second moto with Pagel in pursuit the entire distance. Morga had a bad start and co uld finish no better than fourth a fter a length y battle with Jason Simmo ns. GFI Winte r MX Series North: Round 2 Crumb on top at Marysville By Bill Spencer MARYSVILLE, CA, JAN. 6 eam Gr een 's Ra y Crumb pi cked up the pace a t th e seco nd round of the G FI North Series, winning the 250cc Pro show at Ri verfront Park on the banks of the Feather River, betw een Yub a City and Marysvill e. More th an 400 riders turned ou t for ano the r fun day of motocross raci ng. Fa i rf ield Kawasak i/ Yoko/ I nter link/Bi eff e/ P ro Circu i t-spon so red Crumb delivered a 1-2 punch for his wi n over Ri cky Ryan and Jed Green while Suzuki-mounted Ryan aced both l25cc Pro class motos, with Crumb second over Ch ris Nea l. Eric McKenna turned a 3-1 moto perfor ma nce into the overall wi n in the 500cc P ro class . Sixteen pro s in the 250cc P ro class gated with Cru mb the man 10 bea t, Combined with his Sandhill placi ngs, he now leads the GF1 North 250cc Pro series poi nt stan di ngs as they head for Huron Cycle Park. Ryan was slo w getting off th e line in th e first moto. " I haven 't been riding much ," he said, "and so I was tryin g to wor k my way up and I bai led twice." His efforts weren 't entirely fu tile, and he wo n the second moto for a 4-1 tally and second overall. j ad Green , riding for Dublin Kawasaki/ Su zuki on an RM , looks 10 be a conte nder with two fin e efforts which were good for th ird overall over Brian Call, Pat Bennets and Mike Mannig. Larry Coleman , on the Jorgy' s KX, had a third in the first round but coul d on ly muster a 14th for eig hth overa ll, just in front of John T ho mas who had a pair of eigh ts. Larry Dashiell mad e one of hi s infrequent visits to the rac ing scene and won the opening Open Pro moto over England's Brian Wheel er on th e MPC KTM. McKenna fin ished th ird, but th en returned in th e second moto, more invigorated, to win and take the overall victory with Wh eeler second wi th a 2-2 over Dash iell's 1-3. J erome Heiberger too k fourth with Dennis Sweeten tak ing fifth o ver a disappointed Eric Sandstrom, wh o had r turned in a fine first round showing at Sandhill Ranch. McKen na visi ted the pay window twice, winning both motos in the Vet P ro divisio n. That class, o nce again, brought out a big tu rn out of still great racers , led by Alex Jorgensen, who ha d taken the overall at Sandhill, beating out Ken Zahrt. J or gen sen leads th e Vet P ro poi nt standi ngs with h is 3-2 combination and a second for the day . Clayton Blood too k over second in the point s by beat ing J orgensen in the first moto an d then trailing for the third overall with fellow Concord Mo torsports rider Irv Achziger fourth over Dave Wood. Ryan 's DH Cycle Suzuki had the l25cc Pro class wired in both rnotos wi th Crumb having to ba ttle wit h J oe Bru ce in the first moto and then a combination of Greg Tirheimer and Chris Nea l in the second moto, Ri ch Thorwaldsen once again showed the O ld Timer Experts the way around the racing facility, winning both motos with Orego n 's J im Lam ki n posti ng a pair of r unner-u p performances over Terry Sage and Jim Galatioto. Mike Bran des once again p icked up a pair of wins in bo th th e 250 and 125cc Intermediate classes. H e topped Tyler H u mmel in bo th 250cc motos wit h Oregon 's Ryan Huffman th ird over J eff Brownlee and Eric Du Cray. Danny Nelson and Hummel had to battl e for seco nd and th ird beh ind Brandes in the 125cc class with Nelson second with a 5-2 tally and Hummel third with a 4-3.
