The 85cc (14·15) class go t do wn to business on th e sandy Diamondback Cycle Park track. Greg Rand (77) emerged the winner over runner-u p Doug Dehaan . Bradshaw led for two laps until Dowd made a pas s that took Bradsh aw do wn. Dowd said, " I wat ched his line on the first (two) laps. I made my move to pass" but he came dow n into the same groove and wehit." " Do wd tried to p ass me and we h it," said Bradshaw . " It wasn't a big dea l. I got up and didn 't feel tha t good and settled for fourth. I' ll j us t have to try for the second mo to." Dowd held th e lead for five lap s unti l La Roc co and hi s factory Suzuki blew into the lead and went on to win. Dowd was then dro pped to third by a charg ing T ichenor. La Roc co said, " I love this trac k, but the roost here is awesome. I was tryi ng to keep my vision pa ssing th e lappers and T ichenor got alongside me. I wiped at my goggles and could see enough to ho ld him off for the win ." " I felt strong o n that last lap, made T yson Hadsel (17) prevailed in a hardfought battle in the Pee Wee class . a run at Mike, but he foug ht off my char ge," said run ner- up Tichenor. The fina l 250cc P ro rnoto saw DeVan e and Do wd battle for th e lead for a lap until Bradshaw and hi s Brian Lunis -tu ned YZ bl itzed by to take over the lead for good. "My bi ke worked great and I felt · better this rn oto, I think tha t I tra in ed too hard this week. I took a nice long rest between mo tos," said Bradsh aw. Dowd held ' second, whi ch would have earned him th e overa ll victory, but Ticheno r put the pressure o n and then drop ped Dowd to th ird with a lap to go. " I felt like it wa s my race," said a di sappointed Dowd. " Ro n nie got by and I did everyt hi ng that 1 co uld, but it wasn 't enough." " It was a great race," said T iche nor. " I ap precia te the fans che ering for me an d I tha nk Suzuki's Jim Dan forth for really hel p ing us with the bike today ." La Ro cco mo ved up int o fifth, but could not challe nge for th e overa ll. Devan e credited h is improved fourth place finis h with suspens io n help he received from Mik e McAndrews. Saturday's ama teur program p rodu ced some new winners as hard pack speci alists took a back seat to sand riders. The ope n ing 125cc A rnoto saw Brian Swi nk, Ant hony Paggio, Chris Bro wn , David Beckington and Ezra Lusk in contention. Swink lost the lead to Paggio, on ly to rega in it on the final lap to score the win. " I followed Brian un til he fell," said Paggi o. " I too k th e lead but kn ew that he wo uld be back and he was. " Lusk led Paggio and T immy Ferry in moto two, as Swink was jammed on the start. Ferry mo ved into second and then made a move on Lusk stick to take over th e lead for good on lap four. Brian McEl ro y's Suzuki led all but one lap of the 250cc A motos, Mik e Sta hlma n leading th e first lap of th e day . McEl ro y said , " We are doing testing today. I was up at 2:30 this morning workin g on the bike. It paid off." Ear l May who finished second said, " McElro y is awe som e in thi s sand." May did double du ty, survivi ng a fierce duel with Kevin Foley to wi n the 25· Plus class. " Kevin and I had a blast," sai d May: " T he trac k was perfect, you could pass anyw here." In other Senior action, Alan Andreu and Ro bbie Neeley repea ted in winning their 3G-Plus di visions, and Gary Peak erased Woody Strickland's first 40-Plus mo to win in the final. The Pee Wee motos featured a tough ba ttle bet ween Tyson Hadsell , Sco tt Willia ms, Joshua Fastaino and Mitchell Holstein. After passing Williams to win th e final rnoto, Hadsell said, " When I tried to pass him, he rammed me and I had to go over the tir es to win. " Don Leedy scored h is first 65cc (7I I) swee p, and Ri cky Ca rmichael, Kevin Windham and Greg R a n d cruised to wins in the 85cc divi sions. In Sunday'S Mini A fest, Jason Sybert revenged Kenny Yoho's rnoto o ne win for th e overall. Wom en 's clas s winner Beth Rewis _said, " Kim Sybert bea t me last week. We had a back-and-forth d uel before I edged her out today in th e fin al mo to. It was really good racing." Lusk sho wed his domination in the I 25cc Youth class by comi ng from dead last to take over the lead on the second lap. " I didn 't have it in gear wh en they dumped the ga te," said Lusk. "The n I charged into die back of the ' pack an d cras hed. My front bra ke ' didn 't work, it had grease on it. This was not my favorite race." Ricky Hampshire and Travis Blackbu rn sp li t I 25cc mot o wins, with Hampshire taking the overa ll win.
