DEC. 16 Mike Chamberla in top ped the Pro class during the third rou nd of the California Racing Club's Dealership spo nsor series held at G len Helen OHV Park. Leading the Combined 250/ 50Occ Pro ranks into turn one in the first moto was Rex Slaten with Ryan Carlisle, Chuck Whitmore and Andy Grider on his tail. As the riders began sorting ou t Chamberlain began work ing up towards the front, By Jar three Chamberlain had established himsel in th ird ahead of Grider, a nd the Sta ten/Carlisle/Chamberlain freight trai n qu ickl y pulled away from the pack. Chamberlain pressured Carlisle and by midmota took over seco nd pl ace. Slaten was hit in th e ankle by a fist-sized rock , th rown from a lapped rider, a nd slowed down in considera ble pa in . This gave Cha mberl a in th e overal l lead and he took it and ran away from everyon e. On the last la p Carl isle closed on State n , bu t Sta ten picked up the pace an d fini shed second behind Chamberlain. Carlisle too k thi rd. Staten didn 't start mota two and Grider was first into tur n o ne. Following G rider was Carlisle. Chamberlain and the pack. Grider put a couple of bike leng th s on second by turn three, but Cha mberlai n was chargi ng again and dr opped Carli sle back to third over the tri p les. Soon Chamberlain was all over Gri der a nd eventually fou nd a way in to the lead. Carlisle also moved in , but Grider held him off to finish second after a long ba ttle that carried them pas t the checkered n ag with less than a bi ke's len gth between them.
