Staten too k over the lead on the opening lap wh en he out-jumped Semics th ro ugh the whoops. Glover suffered a 10th place start, but was on th e gas and quickl y found his way towards the fron t. As Staten established a comman ding lead, Glov er stru gg led to get past Ellis. Glover sq ueezed past Ellis in a tight tum and set ou t after Staten , but ran out of 'time before he could ma ke a seriou s bid for the lead." Mat Bateman powered h is Del Amo Yamaha-backed YZ into the lead of th e first 250cc Junior Division I moto with Kenny Maddu x, Tracy Asher and Jim La ngston a heartb ea t behind. With a clear track ahead of him, Bateman began to pull ou t a lead. Meanwh ile, _Lan g st on pressured Asher and bounced past h im in an uphill whoop section. At th e ha lfway point, Ba tema n appeared to be on cruise contro l and not pr epared for th e late mot o cha rge put on by Maddux. Maddux hounded Bateman to the finish, bu t cou ldn' t find a way past. Maddux set out to wi n the second moto, gr abbing the holeshot over Philip Wurster, Lars Eri k Larsson and Asher. Bateman was stuck in sixt h, but slowly work ed his way up to second beh ind Maddux. Bateman plugged awa y and began to reel in th e leader and made his pass off the big dropoff. Larsson then made a last lap charge and overtook Madd ux at the same place to take second behind moto winner and overa ll victor Batem an. Maddux was second overall desp ite fini shing th e moto in third, beh ind Lar sson. Angelo In grande buzzed off the line ahead of the rest of the 80cc J unior class rid ers in th eir first moto and went on to an easy win over Pa ul Ito, Jason Shirev and Ken nv Davis. Shirey had the q uickest clutch in moto two but Ingrande fou nd his way past him two laps from the fin ish to r comp lete a moto sweep. Shirey finI ished a distant second, with Ito rec~ overing from a crash to fini sh thi rd. • J im O 'Neal took con tro l of the first Old Timer Master class moto and went on to win over Robert Fortier and Gary Doggett. O' Neal pulled a no ther hol esh ot in the second moto and held off the challenges of Dog gett to take the win .' Doggest was second, just ahead of Fort ier an d David Rogers. Damon Huffman claimed one of his first big-bike victories in the 250cc Intermedi at e class. Huffman , wh o recently moved up from th e mini ranks , settled for third in the first moto behind Michael Brandes and runaway winner Ryan Huffman, bu t he let it all hang out in moto two and scored the win ahead of Bill y Felts and Brandes. . Brandes used consis tency to claim the victo ry in th e 125cc Intermediate class. Seal Pagel won th e first moto over Bran des and Bill y Joe Mercier, but suffered a nin th place fin ish in moto two. Ryan H uffm an scored the second moto win ah ead of Brandes and Sha wn Morga , but T eam Gr een's Brandes took th e overall hon ors over Huffma n and Chris Ridgeway, who posted 6-4 moto finishes. Mercedes Gonzalez wheelied to the Wom en 's Pro class win , easily top p ing both mot os. Jeanne Pruitt and T ami Rice argued over the runner-up position , trading moto scores. It was Pru itt, however, who scored bett er in th e second moto to claim second overa ll. Mar ia Gonzalez ma tch ed her sister's feat by scoring a stro ng victory in the Women 's Interm ediate class. Valerie Roberts smoked to the first moto win, but couldn' t mat ch Maria 's pace in th e decid ing moto, Gon zalez's 2-1 score topped Rob erts' 1-2. while And rea Webb was thi rd overa ll wit h her 3-3 fini shes. Robert Damron was untou chabl e in the 250cc Beginner class, streaking to doubl e moto victor ies to claim the ov erall win . Steve Stori e wa s th e ru n ner-up in the openi ng moto, bu t drop ped to sixt h in the second rnoto.
