To combat this, Kawasaki engineers redesigned every aspect of the clutch, even tackling how the plates separate from each other when you pull in the clutch lever. While this may seem trivial, if you have ever changed your own clutch, think of how hard plates stick to each other when covered in oil? Now think of trying to separate every fiber from every steel without the sliding, and all plates at once! It takes a lot of ef- fort. Kawasaki redesigned the fibers to allow for easier separation, resulting in a lighter feel and smoother engagement. The Belleville spring washer has a smoother and more progressive compres- sion than traditional springs, again, allowing for an easier pull and smoother clutch ac- tion. All in all, this equates to The KX450 is one of the few motocrossers that can get away without custom number-plate backers. It's already so pretty looking.
